My boyfriend and i can be on the phone for hours without talking

I don't know how say this...I think that an important part of a relationship is being able to be comfortable with silence...if that makes sense. I think it's normal. My bf is in the air force and in Korea at the moment. We'll talk on skype but yeah, if there's nothing left to say, we just sit there doing our own thing but I still like the fact that he's right there ya know? No sense in just blabbing.

Yeah got it in one there. Sometimes it's just nice being there with each other even on the phone. If you don't feel pressure to find stuff to say right through then it's just the comfortable silence , enjoying each other and that's a really cool thing to have .

Like the above poster said, If it doesn't make you feel awkward, then yes it's normal.

I've been married for years and one of the beautiful aspects of it is that although we usually have plenty to talk about, we feel comfortable just sitting together sometimes for an hour at a time without saying a word.

When I awake in the mornings, the first thing I do is to look over to reassure myself that she's there. I love to see her in peaceful repose and I'm content to say nothing. She rises and starts drinking her coffee and by the third sip, begins saying what we're going to have to do that day. By the time she's half way to the bottom of the cup she's talking non-stop.

I nod and grunt, "Yeah, good idea" or "that's right," or "unh-hunh," or "yes, those are pretty slippers." Then she'll say, "You don't care whether those are pretty slippers," and I assure her that, indeed, they are so beautiful that they belong in the Manhattan museum of art. But, now that she has drunk the whole cup of coffee, she announces that I'm not really listening to her anyway. So I assure her that I'm hanging on her every word knowing she doesn't believe it for a minute. Before I've completed that thought, she says, I don't believe that for a minute."

Sometimes it gets so ridiculous that we both just burst out laughing, loud guffaws and belly laughs, and so we start razzing each other about whatever is handy and there is usually plenty of material. She watches a French movie with subtitles and sighs. But she realizes she wouldn't really want a soft romantic man around in place of me. I watch political and business news and she seems to be baffled that anyone would be interested in such dull programming.

I don't know if my love for her is eternal and undying. I don't know why we stay together. I only know it would kill me to be separated from this strange woman whom I have tried to figure out for all these years, and who remains as big a mystery as the Sphinx. Yeah, it's normal to be together or even on the phone and not say anything. After a decade, you won't even ask this question because you'll know, beyond the shadow of a doubt, the answer.

"He's going to be joining the U.S Air Force after he graduates"

So, he's going to drop bombs on innocent people for money. Good for him!
