My boiled egg exploded.

I was making a boiled egg and went upstairs for awhile to use my laptop. After awhile, I suddenly heard a crackle and a explosion. I ran downstairs to the kitchen and to my shock I found that my boiled egg had exploded! The egg is mostly on the floor and it appears that it jumped out of the pot to get there. There are yolk and shell remnants allover one side of the room and on the stove. I'm baffled. Has this ever happened to you? IIN?

    yes it has happened to me before and i was so angry because i was super hungry haha also if you try re-heat a cold boiled egg in the microwave for longer than a minute it'll explode! happened to me. can't win with those boiled eggs. lol

    I once boiled an egg in a microwave. didn't end well. it exploded and burnt my fore arm. I still have a scar to this day.

    Not to the extent of yours but I've seen it happen in a more minor way and I narrowly avoided being scalded by flying water. My guess was that there was air inside the egg and heating it caused it to expand in such a way that the pressure couldn't easily be vented.

    As a fun sidenote, this is how most bombs work.

    Did the water boil away? If so this isn't a surprising result. If there was still water left than I'm as confused as you are.

      It's hard to know. When I heard the explosion I waited awhile before going down to check. When, I got down there were only a few little damp puddles in the pot, the rest of the water had burned out.

    I worked with a young girl who tried to "cook" her egg in the microwave. It didn't explode until she opened up the microwave door. When it exploded it burned half of her face. It looked so awful and excruciatingly painful, but she was lucky that when the scabs peeled away after a month, her skin was scar free.

    I've seen that happen when the egg was being reheated in the microwave. Poking holes in it with a fork or toothpick may help with that.

    Never seen one explode while it was being boiled..that's scary o_O.
