My best friend is getting married & doesn't want me in bridal party

All throughout High school myself and my 2 best friends were inseparable. 6 Years after leaving high school one of them got engaged and decided to only have 1, yes ONE bridesmaid saying it was because her fiancée only had one friend and they wanted it to be even - the one she chose was our other best friend. Later on she told me that it was actually because they both had blonde hair and were thin and tanned and would look better standing next to each other at the wedding. What are your thoughts on this? I thought it was incredibly shallow. Is it normal?

When I first read the title, my immediate reaction was, "does it have to do with looks?"

It is very shallow and superficial, but it is a harsh reality. Many women do this unfortunately.

I recall one of my girlfriends' friends being invited to be in a bridal shower. She was much larger than the other bridesmaids, and her dress was even a different color than the others'. It made her stick out and she did not 'flow well' with the rest of the group. The bride, though image-concious, had a heart. Instead of losing this larger girl as the bridesmaid, she had all of the other 3 girls' dresses altered to look like hers since her dress was the only option. So then she fit in better, was more confident, and the ceremony went terrific.

Some brides need a dose of reality. They need to realize the true meaning of a wedding and the celebration of the union rather than focusing on whether or not their ass looks tight and their friends look bangin. Sounds like your friend is focused on all the wrong things.

You can either say something to her or drift yourself away from her so she will catch the hint. You cannot go through life treating people that way and expecting them to like you. You cannot be the doormat that allows the behavior, either.

Funnily enough we ended up drifting apart. I tried to help her make her invitations etc but she didn't really want my help. She actually ended up having troubles with her fiancée and turned away from me even more. The wedding got called off and she hasn't spoken to me since. I've actually found that because our friendship had started in early highschool (and we are now 6 years out of highschool) we have all changed and this was the push that was needed to show me we had just grown apart and had better friends that we had made out of school.

I think the first part is normal. It's their wedding they can do whatever they want. Even if it means one bridesmaid. Quite frankly it's none of your business. The part about picking your other friend because she was blonde and tan. Now that's rediculous and makes me wonder who would even want to be friends with someone like that?!

Yep that's why I didn't comment and just went along helping her plan the rest of the wedding.

Yeah that's why she said the other friend was better as she was thinner.

That she had 2 close friends but chose to only have 1 person in her bridal party and chose based on looks. Anyway the wedding got called off.
