My 3 yr old newphew is talking about shooting, killing

Just in the last little while my nephew whos 3 and a half is starting to say stuff like "will you kill auntie kitty"? Or "i want to shoot you!" After someone says something to him (weather it be good or bad)
This has shocked the hole family. We have no clue where this came from and we dont support it. Our family is christan.

His mother has come into a lot of stress lately and alot of it has rubbed off onto him causing him to stutter. Could it be from the stress that hes just releasing anger in a bad way?

His mother (my sister) refuses for him to watch anything having to do with violence.

Is this normal?

A kid his age cannot possibly understand or appreciate what it means to "kill" or "shoot" someone. So, these expressions, as nasty as they are, are largely devoid of any real meaning to him.

He says them precisely because of the "shock" value that they have. He can see this powerful effect with his eyes; and to him, this is positive feedback. He has discovered a way of getting attention on command. And, negative attention is better than no attention.

I would suggest to just ignore this, and focus on positive reinforcement instead. Give him attention for the good things that he does.

It sounds to me like he has been experiencing neglect or rejection. Bad parenting? There are psychopaths, and those psychopaths were once kids. Keep a close eye on him and hope for the best!

Bad parenting, bad remodels, and too much exposure to the media for his age. Sorry to say something that I know you aren't going to like to hear (read) but it's quite a fail smh poor kid..not his fault

It is absolutely normal. I did, my brother did and we are peaceful people and have both never thought of killing or shooting someone. As an 3-year-old, that just means to get someone. It's just a game for him. He'll lose interest soon, if nobody teachs him these words when he gets older.

He's a little boy. A lot of little boys like that stuff, when he's older he'll probably like violent video games like a lot of boys do. He's quite young so it probably just means that he's smart and has a good imagination. I wouldn't worry about this.

You mention that you don't let him watch anything to do with violence. Since he's 3 I think that's normal, but as he grows up, it's absolutely just as dangerous to shelter him too much as it would be to overexpose him to violence. He will one day need to know about real life, good bad and ugly, so that he can try and understand the world and make mature decisions.
