My 13 year old daughter came home from school and asked my boyfriend what masterbation is. She heard it on the bus today on her way home from school and was curious. He told her to ask mom. I haven't aproached the subject yet and am looking for some help...
100% normal. This is absolutely to be expected, it's part of life and EVERY child in the world is either going to ask, or at least be very curious and wonder. She's just at that age.
It's your duty and responsibility as a parent to help guide your kid through this phase in her life, and I personally think it's very mature and responsible of your daughter to ask, this gives you a great opportunity to teach her! (Just think, you don't have to figure out a way to awkwardly bring it up!) She needs your guidance right now. Just be "Mom" and let her know! :) You'll do great!
give her a hand mirror and tell her it's one of those things you learn about best by doing...

You should tell her to explore herself and that is is not dirty but a natural act.
Explain the numerous ways to masturbate and explain where her clitorus is and the pleasure it can give.
My mother explained to my sister, who is now in her 4os the best ways to masturbate to the point of showing her how to do it, of course not masterbating but showing her the best places to touch.
My sister said she felt a little embarassed at the time but realised how good it was to see her mother being so open.

There's nothing wrong with the human body, don't give her a cause to fear it.
If you keep it from her, she'll no doubt learn about it from someone else.
Be glad that she is willing to ask, instead of deffering to Urban Dictionary or, worse, Google Images. Both of them would have been a little graphic.
I think your boyfriend did exactly the right thing in deferring this to an actual parent. I think this gives you the opportunity to talk about sex, about how it makes us feel good, why it makes us feel good, and how most people simulate that feeling for themselves. If she's curious enough to try it, then hopefully you'll have set her mind at rest and she won't feel guilty about it. Although, I imagine it would be difficult for you to consider your child doing this.
