Multiple personality disorder?

Sometimes when I look at myself in the mirror it's almost like I don't recognize myself, like I feel like someone else and the reflection doesn't feel like that's what I look like. It's almost like I don't know who I am. I start freaking out and keep asking myself, "Who am I?" Do I have Multiple Personality Disorder or something?

Don't worry, you don't have multiple personalities :) The signs of DID are much more severe than what you're experiencing.

It does sound like you're struggling a bit with your sense of self identity, though. That's perfectly okay and a lot of us go through that, to varying degrees. It might be beneficial to find a counselor or psychologist to speak with - sometimes they can be quite helpful, if you get a good one. I think it would help you out to have someone to talk to about it, that can give you a more personal "open ear" than we can on IIN. Even a good friend who doesn't mind listening can really be a boon.

    No.

You are just looking at yourself for so long that things just look a little unusual.

Multiple Personality Disorder "...is the presence of two or more distinct identities or personality states...that recurrently take control of behavior."

The key point is that ... the core personality is NOT aware of the other personalities.

That's not multiple personalities. That sounds more like depersonalization to me. It usually happens when people are depressed or really anxious/stressed out. (I'm not a doctor by the way)

That sounds more likely than Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID). If you did have DID, you would experience long periods of amnesia whenever your alter personality was in control.

If you're going through stressful or traumatic situation, it would be good to talk about it with a professional, so that they can teach you coping strategies other than depersonalisation.

I'm not a professional either, but I'm a psychology student.

DId is not a real disorder I am a psychologist most all reported cases are presented by defense attorneys trying to get their clients lesser sentences the vast majority of my colleagues agree with me on this subject you will find people in the field claiming its real but that is only because there is a high percentage of idiotic people working in mental health

    1) It's called dissociative identity disorder (DID) now.
    2) Dissociative identity disorder is define as a rare dissociative disorder in which a person exhibits two or more distinct and alternating personalities.

Furthermore, you don't even seem to have any general dissociative disordera which are defined as disorders in which the conscious awareness becomes separated (dissociated) from previous memories, thoughts, and feelings.

So, unless you, at some point, forget entire periods of time or find yourself someplace you don't remember going to and have a recount from someone else about you not being able to recognize them, then you do not have a dissociative disorder.

For me it happens 'cause we're so used to being in our own heads, with our own thoughts all the time. So when you see the physical representation of yourself, it can seem alien/not the real you.

I get like that a lot. I have 2 personalities. 1) when I'm in a good mood, funny, chatty, and social. 2) when I dnt wanna talk at all. And just won't socialize with anyone. Not even friends.
