You can keep your Beethoven and Mozart, I'll take my "Gid Tanner and His Skillet Lickers", and "Al Hopkins and His Buckle Busters".
I'm more of a Mozart guy. I will recognize wholeheartedly that Beethoven was more talented, but I can say that I've listened to Mozart a little more than Ludwig.
Here, check out this piece from Mozart (my favorite): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SDG199MRF-o
Although, I love both and play their music on piano, I have to say as a musician Mozart was IT! From a technical and melodic standpoint, it's all Mozart and his genius. BUT from an emotional and original standpoint, I have to give it to Beethoven for making beautiful music when he lost his very hearing! Both made beautiful music that, centuries later, is still listened to and played. And don't forget Debussy!
That is an almost impossible question. I've thought about this for ten minutes now and my mind is saying 49% Mozart, 51% Beethoven, so I guess my answer is Beethoven, but my real answer is both. And Chopin too, please.
