Not seen anything on here about this yet, so I'm sorry if there is :P

Movember is the movement in which men across the world grow their facial hair in the month of November, raising awareness of prostate and testicular cancer. You can even get friends to sponsor you to cut you beards and mustaches into weird and wonderful styles, all for male cancer charities. Google "Movember" if I've not explained it very well! xD

Are any of you guys (and girls too if that's your sort of thing, I guess :P) going to do this? I'm thinking of trying it, but I've never been able to grow a beard before and I've not even been shaving long (I know I'm a very late bloomer, leave me alone! :'( ). We'll have to wait and see if I get anywhere at all :P Instead, you must all grow yours for me :D

Feel free to post photos of your facial hair as you progress through the month (if anyone comments here and this poll makes it past moderation, anyway :P).

    I did it last year and felt obliged to do it again. 36 hours in, and I'm virtually clean shaven still. Which would be fine if I was Australian (where it started) but I'm in northern hemisphere and I'm suffering from "cold face syndrome".

    What is with all of these bizarre "public awareness" campaigns. If you are really serious about helping people with cancer, you should donate your time or money to an organization that will actually help these people.

    Growing facial hair isn't going to do a damn thing for someone with prostrate cancer.

      I think the point is that people will get people talking. Male cancer is something men don't usually talk about because it's really embarrassing, so making light-hearted fun about it by growing facial hair is a good way to make people feel more comfortable talking about a sensitive issue.

      Getting people talking also spreads awareness of the symptoms. Most men don't really know much about the symptoms of prostate or testicular cancer beyond the obvious and late-stage ones, and knowing all the symptoms can help men catch the cancer in the early stages and potentially save their life.

      And if that still isn't enough for you, as I mentioned in the OP you can get friends to sponsor you in return for looking ridiculous and give the money to a cancer charity. It's a good way of raising money and spreading awareness simultaneously. Personally, I think spreading awareness is even more important than giving to a charity, and it's free!

    I don't really care about awareness or cause, since it doesn't really help anyone anyway. But I'm doing it cause I look like a 70's porn flick actor and it's hilarious. There's no way I'd get away with my porn stach unless it's halloween or movember.

    I shave maybe three times a year, and November is not a month when it usually happens.

    But I love the varying degrees of facial hair on men. Lots of men in my area are bearded. It's like Movember never ends. Although I don't care much for the handlebar mustaches that are gaining popularity, but to each their own.
