Mostly a guy thing?

This if from my observations alone and is there for limited. Thats why I am making a poll :P

I noticed mostly men refuse to take medication.
Example my bf was sick and it wasnt until night time when I brought the medicine to him did he finally take it.
A little while later i asked how he was feeling and he said a bit better probably because it just needed some time...
and I was like or...OR it was the medicine!

How stubborn.
I have notice most guys want to tuff it out and will even go to work while very sick. Why?

Also to see if most guys do this I made a poll.

Reminiscent ~♡

I am a guy... I do this 33
I am a guy... I take medicine 27

I HATE hurting or being physically miserable for no good reason. Gimme any damn drug that helps, BUT I'll research it in depth, before I take it.
I will not go to a doctor unless it is absolutely necessary, BUT I have a very strong constitution and rarely get sick, infections or fear catastrophic illness (if you always worry about illnesses you could very well cause these illnesses).
Half a dozen times I've been cut to the bone, closed it w/ a couple of butterfly bandages and 3 weeks later there was barely a scar.

"if you always worry about illnesses you could very well cause these illnesses."

So true. I have also felt it is possible to ward off the onset of a sickness by thinking alone.

I'm not suggesting mental attitude can't effect our physical bodies because that's obvious, and not dealing with stress is also bad for our physical health, what I'm doubting is that thinking negatively or positively about an illness can cause or cure it.

Remember when Louise L Hay was so trendy? Many people who adopted her philosophies to "cure" cancer or AIDS and weren't successful believed it was their fault for not trying hard enough, rather than holding her crazy newage theories responsible.

I once cut my thumb to the bone... cleaned it in a dirty puddle and put a bandage on it. I cringe thinking about that now...but I did that when I was like 9. And gave no fucks at that age lol.
I have a small scare from it.

Yeah!! My boyfriend never takes anything like Advil or Tylenol. Only his asthma and acid reflux meds. Sometimes if he has a bad cold he will take Dayquil/Nyquil, but usually just toughs it out. Meow.

Cause I don't like doctors and taking meds. I believe I can get better on my own. If I get quite sick, only then I will take meds. Still won't go to the doctor tho... I have better uses for 15 Euros than giving them to a doctor to tell me what I know.

Cause where I'm from that schooling sometimes means nothing.
Also I go to the doctor, he tells me I've got a cold, or something for which I know what meds to take.
And then there is the fact that my family has had enough bad run ins with rubbish doctors.

  • I'm not a fan of medicine. If my body is going to be a bitch then it has to fight through it! Lol.

But in all seriousness, I just don't like relying on medicine to get past illness unless it would be something life threatening.

          • What you have to do is fix him a steak, put on some Steven Segal movies, and throw in some weights. That way he can gain more power in manlyness to defeat the dreaded manflu!

Then if he fails you have to make an old folk song about his battles. I don't write the rules, it's just how it is.

And for your question. Nooope. :) Some things guys do more than women so can be classed as a "guy" thing and same with women. :P

    I'm a female and i try to avoid medication. Colds=nope; headaches=nope; menstrual cramps=nope; dog bite=half a pain pill; stomach bug=is there a thing for that?; flu= haven't had it in a while/can't distinguish from cold/no flu shot

I have taken stuff in the past, minimally, but trying to avoid it completely now and i have a pretty good immune system. I must admit to taking emergenC last year to prevent sickness and i have otherwise taken drugs recreationally in the past when i had symptoms to justify it.

Our bodies get stronger when we don't treat every little symptom.

These are things that most people i know take medicine and offer me medicine for. Even when it's kicking my ass i avoid the meds. I'm not sure why you thought I was only referring to a slight cough. I didn't even mention a cough.

This makes me wonder about his diagnoses? I think colds get pretty bad for some people around my region because the weather is so bipolar. For instance, a couple weeks ago we had some snow flurries and temperatures then proceeded to reach high 60's the next day.

A cold to me can ether be cough and stuffy nose. .. or you can have a bad cold/ flu with a fervor and headaches and stuff.
but mostly people just get a slight cold wit a cough.

My bf didnt have a cold or the flu
he was having really bad stomach pain.

Let the body run her course, she is mean green fighting machine. If you can avoid taking medication you should. Will make you stronger at the end of day, and if starts to make you super weak then yeah you may have to take some meds.

  • I always research anything I take but have no problem with medicine. I don't take them without good reason though because I think it weakens the immune system. I take quite a few prescriptions.

also you may need to up dosage if you take it offten.

We dont get sick offten enough for that to be a concern. He usually only gets sick like fervor sick once a year. Sometimes not at all that year. So I dont think thats a worry.

I don't think so, although whenever my body is feeling upset or in pain I take medicine outside peoples' presence.

I had a migraine at work during the last two hours (it actually happened twice in one week). At the time not one co-worker lived in town, so I had to tough it out. I had no medicine at the time; the pain was unbearable, yet I still did my job properly. I had to call my mother so she could drive me home. Once I got home, I took some aspirin and went to bed. My head is a bit phased out after sleeping, but the pain is gone. Now if I could figure out why I have a migraine once every six months.

I... sort of do this? I've never and probably will never take medication for something like a cold, headache, or any other pain. I try to minimize the amount of meds I take. Which means no vitamin pills or anything like that either. But if it's necessary, I take it. A sore throat, yes (though regularly having tea with honey works better than cough syrup for me) Flu, yes. I once got bit by a spider and had hives for a week, I took antihistamines the entire week for that too.
