    • serious question......do you know many Keane fans?? I just found out about "Today Tomorrow and Tonight" about four months ago and I can't stop listening. Nobody I know has heard of them. I found out on accident looking for random Youtube vids. Then I looked them up on MP3Maxx and iTunes. Only found that one album. Do you know any other material that that guy that helped the Keane Brothers with the writing of that album has done that's worth a listen? He was from

woops.....we're talking about different bands here..sorry....I meant The Keane Brothers from late 70s TV.

    • how many wang chung songs have you actually heard? My guess is just one. Check out their debut album. Underrated. It's under Huang Chung....before they changed the spelling.

serious! what the fuck did they do? besides the obvious and eponymous? Might as well throw ChumbaWumba up there too, with a Men Without Hats chaser.....

Most bands in the symphonic metal genre. Mostly because Americans have too poor of musical taste to know what symphonic metal is :/

Yawwwwwwn! I suddenly feel the irresistable pull of a EuroPoofter-inspired blathering drawing me off to a nice long sleep.

Diamond Head is the most underrated of those, Lightning To the Nations is an amazing piece of NWOBHM.

Wolfmother is not underrated at all. Dio-era Sabbath is pretty acclaimed.

  • Pistashios

never heard of any of them

None of them. Most of the ones I recognise I recognise because they're very popular (thus not underrated), the ones I don't recognise I don't know if they're underrated because I don't know them. Logic wooo.

My favourite period for music is probably the 90's and naughties so I definitely don't belong around these brown leather wearing, long haired lot... :P

the band, ratt, dio era sabbath, thin lizzy, accept, queensryche, all great 80s rock bands! also autograph, krokus, twisted sister, and dokken. I know the last four may be somewhat better known, but it seems everyone only knows one song from each of them.

I believe Black Rebel Motorcycle Club to be quiet an underrated band. They have a following that spans years, of course, but one never really hears about them. The Brian Jonestown Massacre are undervalued as well.

    Frank Zappa

Not only underrated based on his entire discography....but severely underrated as both a brilliant composer and a fucking shredding guitarist. One of the best!

Problem was: most just focused on the humor and sarcasm and satire in his songs and didn't focus beyond the obvious to appreciate, recognize and understand the complexity and quality of the music as a whole....Truly one of the great 20th century composers...check out symphony or orchestrated versions of his songs.....

Are you joking me... most of those are really famous, and almost all of them are sh*t. I'd say that the Pet Shop Boys are over-rated, not under-rated. Diamond Head have about one good song and they are not famous, so I'll vote for them. All the others are famous and mainstream or rubbish. Queensyrche are decent, but I wouldn't choose to listen to them, and I wouldn't call them under-rated.

Thin Lizzy, under-rated. Is that a joke!? They are one of the most famous bands on the planet, I'm surprise that anybody hasn't heard of them! Seriously, I'm no hipster, but those bands are NOT under-rated.

  • These bands must be underrated for a reason.

I voted for rory gallagher, best guitarist ever IMO. I suppose this question doesnt make sense because a band would be underrated because they arent well known and so would get less votes here because of that. So the one with the least votes is probably the most underrated (hmm). Although Wolfmother? they def not underrated, they are just crap.

And it just occurred to me as to who would be a good example for an underrated band... The Nerves!

Really, how many people have heard of The Nerves compared to the number of people who have heard the song Hanging on the Telephone? I first heard a cover of that song back in 1995, but didn't know until 2010 who was first to do the song.

Love their version of Hanging on the Telephone way more than Blondie's cover.

      Comment Hidden ( show )
  • They only had one song that ever broke the top 40. Silent Lucidity.

Little Richard had a shit load of hits, but I put him on the list because, like, Queensyrche, were way way more important to rock music's development than most realize. That's all.

I agree some on the list were and still are successful.

This poll is just a "They were way better than most realize" poll.

I'll agree though, I was kind of laughing at my list while I was writing it.

I mean, read some of the comments.
Two people openly admitted they had never heard of most of these artist.

Eyes of a Stranger peaked at 35. I Don't Believe In Love came oh so close at 41.

You were right about Silent Lucidity (and it peaked at #1), but there were also five other songs from Empire that made it in the charts, and the lowest of these five songs peaked at #28.

Promised Land had three songs make it in the top 40, and the whole dang LP peaked at #3.

With singles hits aside, Queensryche are an album-oriented band, and the fact that they did well in the LP market with many people knowing their name reflects this.

My idea of an underrated band would be Above The Law. They were a Gangsta Rap group active in the 1990's, and despite how closely I followed the genre, I hadn't even heard of them until 2004 in a video game, and (to me) were good enough for me to wonder why I never heard of 'em until then.

  • TotalAspie

It's hard to pick one with so many choices spanning so many different genres of music. I don't see how The Animals and Kix could be compared to one another in the same poll.

Many of those bands listed got their dues (love 'em or hate 'em), and I can't begin to imagine how anyone would consider Queensryche to be underrated, since they had more hits than many more of the bands featured, and literally came right out of nowhere to have Operation Mindcrime II to go high in the charts.

i know montrose is a different band, but i always just lumped them in with sammy hagar, because after all, he was the lead. Also, has anyone heard of the group heaven and hell? (2009) Its basicaly black sabbath, but with DIO once again as the lead vocals, until he died last year.

You can name almost any band that didn't "make it big," and consider them underrated, but it doesn't necessarily mean that they're underrated; could mean that they just suck lol. I don't know half these bands on the list. Out of all of them though, I chose The Zombies.
