More pc bull at work!

Have you seen the commercials for Discover card, with 'Peggy'?

I see what they are trying to say. It's a comment on outsourcing and bad communication.

But obviously, you don't get stuck with an Eastern European white person, they're referring to the frustration people have with Indian call centers.

So, does it piss you off that people feel like they can't express the truth about what everyone feels because they don't want to seem racist? It's not racist if it's true to life, come on. I don't dial customer service and dread being stuck with a Siberian man calling himself Peggy. I'm pissed about an Indian person, who can't understand me, calling himself Sean.

I'd have ultimate respect for Discover if they's portray the issue truthfully, but their insistence on avoiding truth annoys me greatly.

Yes, I hate this too. Be real!! Everyone's on the same page anyway. 24
No, I think they should be PC even though it's not reality. 5

That's not really what racism is. Racism is about treating somebody preferentially (or worse) solely because of their race. I think it's fine to say you find Indian call centres inconvenient because of communication problems. But you do have to be careful how you say it. You could say something very similar and it be racist. Strange times we live in. I don't particularly like political correctness myself. I'd rather people were just a bit more open and tolerant.

    • I'm not defining racism here. I'm saying the advertiser or company won't portray people's true frustrations because they think people will call them racist. Whether it's the true definition of racism or not is inconsequential.

It's no different than how white men are more commonly put into subservient roles in an ad, or if a role calls for someone to play a burglar or other criminal, they'd almost never cast a minority in that role.

What am I saying? If one is purposely going against what they feel is a realistic scenario for the sake of not looking "racist", then that's wrong. They need to grow a set of balls.

The word 'racism' is dead. It's so over used that nobody even knows what it means anymore. Saying "All nigĀgers are monkey ape beasts who steal cars and smoke crack paid for with welfare money" is racist. It stereotypes an entire race. Saying "Indian call centers are hard to understand" is not racist. It's a fact.

  • That should be Serbian man, not Siberian. Duh. Well I don't know where the man is supposed to be from, but anyway....

The reason there's customer service in developed countries is because of the outsourcing. Otherwise there wouldn't be any customer service at all. The services might be hard to understand, but at least there is a service. I'm opening up a BPO myself since I'm in Sri Lanka. Wish me luck lol. But I hear you on the accents, ony data entry and analytics in my company.

It's a parody of overseas call centers, period. Whether its Indian or Serbian is beside the point- they can be from either country and have poor communication. Hell, I've spoken to American tele reps and had a tough time understanding them! If you have a problem understanding them, speak to your bank. They're the ones that decide to cut cost by sending work overseas, they're the ones that chose Indians to do their work.

"Express the truth"? It's a commercial, not a documentary. You're just another inferiority suffering white man that's pissed off about India's economic growth. India is getting more and more contracts for outsourced work and it's only going to keep growing. India's GDP grew an unprecedented 11% last year, while your Europe continues on its inevitable decline into anarchy. That's right, you just got trashed by an Indian, you filthy neanderthal pink skin monkey!

    • Also, I wouldn't be too proud of the outsourced work you get. It's only because you work for less than anyone else, not because of any talent or anything. Not much to boast about. Especially considering, this very commercial, and many others like it, showcase the fact that the company doesn't use your crap services.

"Portraying realness" isn't going to make every MNC drop their Indian call centers tomorrow. If you want change, do something at least half way meaningful about it, as opposed to spreading your propaganda through pointless anonymous polls on isitnormal, of all places. Speak for yourself, because I've had minimal problems dealing with Indian reps.

India doesn't pride itself on outsourced work. It has a 5 milena old culture to be proud of. Do you really think that India's incredible 11% growth rate came solely as a result of some outsourcing contracts? Sure, India's an emerging market and it helps, but it doesn't even cause a dent. Outsourcing brought the country just enough money for dog food, especially when you realize that call center reps in India come from the lowest social class with no education haha. Do you really think a bunch of slumdogs can cause, let alone sustain, 11% growth to a nation of 1.2B+? Let's put it bluntly, that's like saying Mexicans are the reason for America's dominance.. hello?! India can trash those petty little outsourcing deals, and will still put up double digit growth consistently, which would be more evident if it wasn't for corruption. But still, when you juxtapose that with the current Obama administration and their Marxist ideals, you realize things can be worse. So yeah toughen up princess. If you act like a child, you get treated like one.

    • Sure, whatever you say. Who said I was a white man? You assumed, and you're wrong.

I know what the commercial is saying. I'm just saying they need to grow a ballsack and portray the realness. I've had minor problems before with all sorts of customer reps BUT I've never had the amount or sheer frustration, or had so much of my time wasted, as I do with an Indian person. Even on online chat customer service, without even hearing their voice, you can tell you're dealing with an Indian. People HATE it, and this is what people dread to get on the other end of the line, and nothing else compares.
