why '50 shades of gay'? there's not even anything gay in it. unless you're using 'gay' as an insult in which case fuck you.

The 'popularity' of the books and movies is marketing , not substance.

Its mommy porn from how many years ago? Whatever, bored housewives read that shit and it got them wet. I was a fan of that. The chick in the movies is super hot. Any man that complains about these wonderful books and movies is likely a homosexual.

"Mommy Porn "!? wtf, the actors are young and immature, unattractive idiots.

Why the hell is it mommy porn xD

It's, "mommy porn" because it was initially consumed by bored, neglected housewives and younger mothers. It was just risque enough with mild S&M to be tantalizing but not taboo. Older women read Danielle Steel, younger (and older) single women just get laid or read much more extreme erotica. It's erotic enough to keep people's interest but not too extreme that it was deemed by society as innapropriate to read in public, hence its popularity in that demographic. Then it's popularity essentially made it go viral.

The movies had to be tamed down to keep an "R" rating, so it does come across as rather silly if you've just seen the movies and not read the books. Plus, like many multipart series books-to-movies, the intital hype or fad of the books is long gone by the time the sequels make it to theatrical release.
