Monogamy slowly dying?

In todays world, it seems like monogamy is becoming more difficult. With the divorce rate being so high, and all the people i know personally who are having trouble maintaining a relationship, it just seems like the old saying "there is some one out there for everyone" is becoming harder to believe.

Back when the average human lived till the age of 35, you lived in areas where everyone knew each other, and the closest town was a 3 day horseback ride away, marriage was a lot easier. Even without relegion of course.

So my question is... Do you personally think that monogamy is dying? Do you think it is possible to have a long term "till death do us part" relationship in this day and age? Or do you believe that monogamous relationships will soon be the minority in future generations? Thanks for reading, and please comment.

Yes monogamy is dying 15
No monogamy is not dying 27
Yes monogamy is dying, but still could be possible 49

Some people just fall out of love. It isn't necessarily a bad thing, it's just something that happens. Do I think some people stay together for the rest of their lives? Sure. Some people have. Some people can stay in love with the same person forever while others fall out of love.

You gotta understand that a long time ago divorce was a whole other thing. In fact, I don't think that divorce was even legal until the 19th century. There's nothing wrong with getting a divorce and people not being monogamous. If anything, I commend people who leave a relationship that's not working. No sense in staying in something that makes you unhappy.

I suppose you could say it's declining because people who don't want monogamy are probably slightly closer to having their preference socially accepted. But I think monogamy is still far more socially acceptable and still what most people (in a relationship) want.

It's no longer against our religion (Unless you live in like ...Afghanistan) to get a divorce if you aren't happy.

I believe that in the past no one got a divorce, you were kinda brought up to really put up with your significant other no matter what happens.

These days everyone with an ounce of self respect should know their own worth.
I never stay in a relationship that no longer is what I seek, I have a couple of things that I would never want to be without and some things that I never accept.

Honestly I don't think that humans are really meant to be with just one person. Very, very few people are with one and only person during their entire life (Unless they are from other generations)

I think people today are spoiled and quitters.
They don't honor their commitments and they couldn't care who they hurt to get what they want, be it money or another woman/man after they have married. Instant gratification is the religion of today and planned obsolescence the foundation.
So yes, I do believe monogamy is dying as are family values and unfortunately, the USA.

Its not monogamy its people loss sense of morality. No one has morals anymore. Everyone is out to please themselves and only themselves. They do not care who they fuck over.

I don't think monogamy is declining at all. I just think that more people are having casual hookups or rather it is becoming a common sight to observe people wanting casual sex. However, it is not a new thing, people have always had mistresses. And with the advent of new age ideas, such as women also having a sex drive, more people aren't rooted to such notions as "she has to be a virgin" or "wait until marriage." People are becoming more free to do whatever they want, since more people are starting to stress less and less social norms. I mean think about it, 100 years ago two men being in a relationship would be considered sinful but now it's practically common, because you are seeing more and more people be open about their desires and what they want. It doesn't make them a bad person, it just shows you the social improvements (American) society has made.

You could say that one man and one woman relationships are slowly dying because you observe more homosexual relationships. But that's not true, it's like I said people are just more open to what they want nowadays. Nothing is dying. Plenty of people still want to meet "the one" but that doesn't mean that they have to be a virgin or that they can't have a few flings before then.

When i put this post together... I didn't mean just "man and woman" relationships lol. I meant relationships in general.

I understand that society is becoming more open with their sexuality. Which leads to people being able to explore and have fun, and not be judged.

The reason why i think that monogamy is dying is because of this. If people can explore their sexuality without the fear of judgement, and be able to sleep with 3-4 different people, then why would you settle down? Eventually this will become normal.

You will be able to have 3 girlfriends or boyfriends and be open about it. I'm not saying monogamy won't be possible, but i do believe it is declining because we are aloud to experiment without judgement. I'm also not saying this is a bad thing either lol. I'm just curious about what other people think.

I think what you're talking about is polygamy, which is still looked down upon. There's also poly-amorous relationships, which is pretty much when you love multiple people and they do as well and you guys are all dating. This is still seen as taboo in America's culture. I get where you're coming from but there are some traditions that people are still rooted down on, like thanksgiving or having manners. Monogamous relationships I don't believe will die anytime soon. Will it die a billion years from now? Perhaps, but everything decays. If you think about our sex drive will probably decay, if society seems bored with sex and stops glorifying it, which it probably will because advertisements will decay as well. Everything decays. But in conclusion I do not see monogamous relationships dying any time or even in my life time or grandchildren life time.

Nah I get what you mean and I could see where you're coming from. It's just that like, I don't know, people still believe in traditional relationships.

You can see it with binoculars before dawn...just below Mars and to the left in the South-Eastern sky.

If you look back at the 1960's you'd realise monogamy isnt dying and instead we are becomming more and more prude, even though our television is basicly softporn and we dress up slutty. When it comes right down to it, in real life, people are more territorial and jealous about relationships than they have been for a hundred years
