I think the most importance should be put on military members, their safety and their families. Service members should not be ill-equipped. They should not qualify for welfare, essentially.
Most enlisted persons signed up not thinking about what they were getting into, many were outright lied to. They should not be put in such a position. The government takes complete advantage of people in this regard. They know that most enlisted persons are there as a last resort, so they can be treated poorly once they sign on the dotted line. Even many commissioned officers signed up as a last resort. But due to the committment they made, they shouldn't be treated like shit once they sign up.
No one should ever be sent into a battle without the proper equipment. That should be criminal!!
Beyond that, speaking of developing a larger presence through weapon development and starting shit, I think it should relax. I believe there are more effective, smarter and more humane ways of getting things done. I compare it to life-I don't have to go around beating the shit out of everyone who threatens or opposes me, or those who I feel are doing injustice to another. There's always other means of resolving a situation before resorting in violence (and I'm a rather agressive person, mind you!!).
Yes important.
Sometimes civilians will notice when the news shows reports of bases being attacked, but not always.
just because you don't pay attention to something and don't care about it doesn't mean it's not there.
i look at it like maintaining your car brakes. sure it may be cheaper - at first - to not replace them, not do maintenance... but eventually it will break and leave you needing help.
THE MORE MONEY FOR MILITARY MORE WE PWN and less casualties for us why do you think AMERICA pwns so mutch and kill/death ratio is fucken pro its because we invest shit ton in FTW
American ambassador? :)
The US spends way too much in military..
And they aren't exactly good at war, look at Vietnam, North Korea and Iraq for instance.
Invade countries with far weaker military and leave business unfinished.
The US should spend more money to fix their own problems. (And don't tell me there aren't any).
No. Why would it?! Everyone just needs to get along. There would be no military needed to spend money on.
Of course it is you morons. NOW, I'm a liberal but every country needs SOME military spending, lest ye be defenceless. America spends WAY too much on military/defence however, they should get that significantly.
I don't think we should spend much on the military but we (the UK) have become so involved in just about every war or invasion we couldn't safely cut back immediately. I think Switzerland is closest to the ideal of being neutral but still able to defend yourselves.
People, not money. Military spending is out of control and serves the love of money, not mankind. Peace is not the goal of the military, they only want more money. I'm not saying it shouldn't be funded at all. But it should support the welfare of the people it is claiming to support, not make us slaves to a broken system that has begun to eat itself.
I think wigsplitz and I come at things from different angles but I can't disagree with anything she says here because I feel very much the same way. I agree with her entirely.
I think we should put money into the military and their families, but not too much. As a country, we should try and stay out of as many fights we can.
