Mental illness, paranoia or drug addiction, can you help?

a couple of years ago me and my best friend stopped talking for no apparant reason he just ignored me so i let him get on with it, about a year later i saw him in a club and we got talking again we forgave eachother and got on as normal until 7 or so months ago when he swiched again, he offered to fight me when he was drunk, and the next day kept saying someone was talking about him, nobody was, he was acting very odd, very agressive so i again just let him get on with it, since then we not spoke at all its just gone back to the way it was, he has isolated himself from our group completly i hav noticed (we work at the same place) he puts his wrist up to his nose as if to wipe it, he will do this all the time, if you watch him for 1 minite he will do this like 10 times, i have asked the few people that he still talks to why this is and they say he uses cocaine every so often, but because he constantly wipes his nose, walks and drives so very agressivly, sometimes even punches innanmate objects i am worried that he is a regular user, or if he may hav a mental illness such as skitsophrenia (awful spelling) or obsessive paranoia etc he has always been very sensitive and had random mood swings. even though we dont talk i am still worried about him, what the hell is going on in his head?

its definitely not schizophrenia, thats a totally different thing. It sounds like you're right, hes taking cocaine and thats whats causing these mood swings.

I used to be like that. I used cocaine on occation but that was not the problem. Frustration always built up do to ADHD. ADHD causes your mind to jump around a lot which causes feelings to change rapidly. I became very agressive because no one could understand me because I could not express myself properly. Believe it or not cocaine, being a stimulant, has a positive effect on ADHD. That is why ritalin (methylphenidate or speed) is prescribed. I am not saying your friend is for sure ADHD but it sounds possable to me. Good luck

From personal experience with friends in that situation, I would say that sounds like the behavior of an addict. Drugs really do awful things to a person's behavior.

He probably is using a lot more then he makes it seem. This is probably causing paranoia especially if he is getting into crystal which is what a lot of coke users later resort to for a longer lasting high.

too bad about your friend, but there's not much you can do about it. if you are that concerned, contact his family and see if they are struggling with him too. maybe it's itnervention time.
