Medicine question: drugs that can put you to sleep at night?

Only getting like 3 or 4 hours a night for sleep?? Don’t think it’s working for me. What could I buy at the pharmacy that can help knock me out for the night?

Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

You could probably by some chloroform online. Perhaps try that.

In all seriousness ask a real doctor about this. Don’t look for medical advice from a bunch of uninformed strangers on the internet. It’s stupid and potentially dangerous. People are shit especially when they are on the internet.

Rather than drugs, maybe work out why you're not sleeping well. Too much caffeine late in the day, ditto screen time, stress????

There are many drugs which will knock you out but they can be addictive and/or lose their efficiency after a while.

Have you spoken with your doctor about this? And have you tried masturbation?

Melatonin! It's the bodies sleep hormone so pretty much guaranteed to help. Get pills and take at least 3mg half an hour before bed. I have been doing this for 1 year plus.

Google exists, look up sleep aids. Their are a lot of over the counter sleep medications. You could also just get Benadryl.

Benadryl is actually not bad for relaxation as far as over the counter medications are concerned. I personally like to take a capsule, or possibly two of Valerian root, and or a 5mg of melatonin. Also, believe it or not, herbal teas can be quite effective. Celestial Seasonings puts out a really good tea for relaxation called Tension Tamer, and Yogi Tea has an excellent one called Bedtime.

Another good idea is also look into using essential oils like: Lavender, Clary Sage, Sweet Marjoram, Roman Chamomile, Bergamot, and Peppermint, for starters. I also like adding Sweet Orange as well as Mandarin to some of the above oils in a diffuser.

Finally, I want you to suggest that you listen to some relaxing music, and maybe find something nice, boring to read. Don't watch television bed.

I love patchouli and neroli, too!

Oh yeah, those are lovely. I wish Neroli wasn't so expensive, it smells lovely.

Yeah, me too. My neroli is only 5% diluted in coconut oil. But it's still as strong as anything.

Ask the people who work at the pharmacy for suggestions.

Everyone is different, but here’s my take...

    OVER THE COUNTER
    - Diphenhydramine (Benadryl), worthless
    - Melatonin, worthless
    - Chamomile, worthless
    - CBD, somewhat effective at high doses
    - Valerian root, worthless
    - L-tryptophan, worthless

    PRESCRIPTION ONLY
    - Zolpidem (Ambien), the best as long as taken on an empty stomach and for no more than two consecutive nights, so good luck every 3rd night
    - Trazodone, worthless
    - Hydroxyzine, worthless
    - Seroquel, somewhat effective at high doses
    - Olanzapine, somewhat effective at high doses
    - Mirtazapine, very effective but has 24 hour half-life and will give a hangover sedative feeling
    - Doxepin, can be okay at no more than 6mg
    - Propranolol, worthless

I’ve had good results from medicinal cannabis, but I use it for insomnia caused by PTSD.

Promethazine. It's just an antihistamine but it helps. Other than that good diet and exercise works great.

Mirtazapine, it’s also an antidepressant and you don’t need to take a lot

Benedryl. Even the generic version works well. It is not like some super powerful sleep aid, just that drowsiness is a side effect.

Of course talk to your doctor beforehand and all that shit.

Try nyquil. It works well for me but unlike other choices it doesn't make me lethargic the next day.

diphenhydramine or doxylamine, both are otc. If insomnia is chronic consult a psychiatrist.
