Meat & two veg please

Im not an animal rights activist or anything like that. In my opinion if you cant put it on a plate and eat it its not worth knowing about. People are so concerned about animal cruelty and will bycott all meat products in sympathy.

My question is this

what about our friends inthe vegetable kingdom. Just because we cant hear their pain does it mean they dont have any. They are living creatures that grow and evolve the same as anything else yet we constantly torture them without a second thought. If you could hear a plant scream when you pulled it out of the ground would you have second thoughts abouut eating it.

Is it normal to have sympathy for our friends in the vegetable and plant community?

About time someone brought up this subject. I think this way we got to eat to live right got that out fo the way. Now to suggest plants have feelings I'm not going to coment but you are killing a plant its realy no different to deforestation is it. Do vegetarians eat bread if so shame on you yeast is a bacteria therefore it is a living creature haha your not true vegetarian now I got you on that. So I don't give a shit what I eat we are killing something to eat it that's the way of life that's why we farm food and that's why I say thanks before I eat.

I used to think about this, but then I realized that plants don't have nerves, brains, or anything that would make it physically possible for them to feel pain. Animals, however, DO feel pain because they have nervous systems, which is why I don't eat meat.

Do plants have a central nervous system? Even Ganglion?

you are so fucking retarded.....plants dont feel pain, they dont think...their vegetabes are just food reserves and fruit is designed to be eaten hence the seeds. seriously, think before you type.

Well plants can "feel". The mythbusters did a polygraph test on plants and found out that they do have a bioelecetric response to external stimuli.

It's just a fact of life that living things must kill to continue living.

You are so right dude. I alway think about that, but have never been able to put it into such good words. You are absolutely right and you are not normal for thinking this; you are among the few who actually have feelings and common sense. :)

I think you are nuts but I bet you could find a few (ok, a very few!) that agree. Personally I would question where you went to school. Vegetables do not have brains and central nervous system, they can't feel anything.

Plus what you gonna eat? Synthetic chemicals all your life or just animal by-products like milk and cheese?

Food is food. get the hell over it damn.

IMO, if you are so concerned about it, and think that you can do any good for your cause, know that only other people that are like minded care. nobody else does, or ever will. and i will laugh on your Mal-nourished graves.

A vegetarian diet is much more beneficial to the sustainablity of our Planet than a meat-based diet.

The advantages go on and on... lower risk of heart disease and obesity, animal welfare issues, etc.

In any case, plants are an important part of a balanced diet.

As a vegan I get this kind of stuff all the time. Usually the asker doesn't care one iota about how veggies/vegans feel about this kind of thing.

BUT just in case you do care, I will explain:

Harachi said it succinctly. Plants don't have any of the mechanisms that animals (including humans) have to feel pain. It is logical to give animals the benefit of the doubt when it comes to suffering, but just plain stupid to attempt to extend the same to plants.

Also, no veggie/vegan advocates death by starvation. There's lots of variation within our community, but the main reason vegans like me refuse to consume animal products is because they are unnecessary.

If it's a matter of survival, that is different. (But for many people in the West, that's not the case.) Therefore, even if vegetables could feel pain, it would be a matter of survival for humans to consume them.

Let's assume plants did feel pain. A vegetable-based diet would still cause less suffering because of the animals that eat tons of plants daily and environmental reasons.

hell, yes, it is normal for a girl to like to have her pussy licked. so what if it is done by a dog? i hear they are quite good at it. probably better than most guys, and much more willing i'd bet.

You have to understand that there is a big difference between vegetation and animals. Animals, such as cattle, sheep, pigs, chicken, fish, etc. have nervous systems, circulatory systems, respiratory systems, the 5 same senses that we possess and brains. This is why a lot of vegetarians feel it is wrong to eat them.
Plant's don't possess any of these characteristics.
So in answer to your question. Yes trees and plants are living organisms, but no they cannot feel anything, think anything, or really do anything, except respond to outside stimuli. In other words your guilt is completely pointless.
I really hope that has cleared it up for you.

You're wrong to a certain degree. Many animals are so primitive to the point that they are basically as sentient as venus fly traps. Oysters are an example.

  • LMFAO..the vegetable & plant community. Well, us as humans decide that plants do not feel any emotion or pain, so that it must be alright that we rip them up, cut them and eat them for meals.

But hey, what if they really did have feelings? :O

    It makes ya think....

Hello Cab, you bring up a valid point here. Ya see, I think on a serious note those people that do not eat a certain type of food, wether it be meat or veggies, because of cruelty or what have u, are f*cking morons.

So everybody shut up and stuff ur mouth.

I think everything that is alive wants to stay alive, and loves life in its own way.

I think plants love life in their own way. So you're always killing something that doesnt want to die whenever you eat anything.

but dying is everyone's fate anyway, isn't it? and most of us don't want to go when the time comes.

Ok now I have myself all depressed, so I have to go out now and get some pink taco. I can eat that all night long and no one gets killed. or at least not usually.

Yeah, it' normal. Not sure if they feel pain but they do sense temperature and movement. In the end, they'll probably end up eating us. It's part of our lifecycle. Good question!
