Maybe its time to take the bus.

My car broke down a couple of weeks ago. It was a used car. An old beater. Got almost three years out of it though. Got engine trouble and its not worth fixing. So I'm saving up to get another one. Another used. Can't afford monthly payments and full insurance coverage so a new or leased car ain't happening. A co-worker of mine offered to pick me up and drive me home. I just need to hit him off on gas money. He is gay, but he knows that I am straight so I didn't think there would be a problem. The first few days there wasn't a problem. I even made sure to talk about my girlfriend a lot. He's even met her. Problem now is that I feel this guy is hitting on me. Some extra touching, some funny eye movements, some weird innuendos, like a guy trying to get in a girl's pants. Its starting to creep me out. Then I think maybe he is just trying to be friendly. Does that sound like normal behavior for a gay guy. Or he is on the make? I just don't know. I can get a bus to and from work. Think I should?

Sounds bad. But a public bus could actually be even worse.

I dunno if it's normal or not, some people are more sassy and flirtatious than others, regardless if you're feeling uncomfortable then I would recommend that you go ahead and take the bus. My heart certainly goes out to you, because I've never been much for riding the bus, in fact some would accuse me of being spoiled or whatever. Just do your best to save for another car and understand that you don't need to put up with another person making you feel uncomfortable. Don't be afraid of hurting this guy's feelings or offending him. Just let him know that you appreciate the help he's given you and that you're grateful for that, but for now you will be going a different way. Maybe you can find a carpool with some other more appropriate people who don't make you feel uncomfortable.

Don't get me wrong I love gay people, especially gay men. One of my dearest life mentors who is currently in the last stages of brain cancer is a gay man. I just feel very strongly that excessive flirting and hitting on friends and coworkers who are unresponsive and do not return those affections in always inappropriate and selfish in nature. I certainly wish the very best for you in this struggle.

I personally don't like public transportation cause you have to remain vigilant all the time, but if you're really feeling that uncomfortable, take the bus and just tell him that you appreciate his help and you don't want to bother him with rides anymore. This way you won't hurt his feelings and he'll understand.
