Mass killing of suicidals

If there was a shooting but everyone killed was previously confirmed to be suicidal, would it still be tragic?

Of course it would be tragic. Just because they are suicidial or have mental problems doesnt mean they deserve to be shot to death.

          How goes it?

    • But it would be fulfilling their wishes!

No. It would be fulfilling only half their wishes. When you want to be your own murderer, you are enjoying a dual role - that of the victim, and that of the murderer. It just isn't the same unless they have the fun of pulling the trigger themselves.

Of course, many of these people are loving, intelligent, talented contributors to society. Kind of heartbreaking when you think about their potential to make the world better and happier for everybody.

      • I think it's tragic for everyone but the people themselves.

        Comment Hidden ( show )
  • Yes and no. It's tragic that they were put in a position where their suffering outweighed their fear of death and caused them to be suicidal in the first place. However, it's not tragic that they were killed, as the shooter merely granted their death wish and released them from whatever troubles they were going through.

It should be every man's freedom to choose whether to live or die. They didn't ask to live in this world, so they have every right to choose to leave if they so wish. Denying them that right would be cruel and unreasonable, like a jail warden holding an innocent person prisoner.

Now, go ahead and downvote me for not fishing for upvotes by parroting a politically correct opinion. I really could not give a shit.

I totally agree with your rational and well written post, but I don't understand your last paragraph...... but then any use of the meaningless and lazy term "politically correct" makes me cringe.

I have upvoted you, but nothing to do with political correctness or otherwise

You don't know what goes on in each of those individuals minds for them to wish death on themselves. It would be just as sad as any other mass shooting.

How could it possibly be as sad as a mass shooting of people who wanted to live?

Who cares about sadness? I think the ideal situation is a duel where both people want to live, and both people want to kill. Now that's some real excitement.

However, blood sports are not a good idea. Broadcast on the internet, they promote barbarianism which has already ruined the world enough.

Okay ellenna you're right it wouldn't be sad at all.

A lot of people who 'want to live' don't deserve to live. I'd venture to say that most suicidal people are good people stuck in a shitty spot or crowd. Though it's all relative to the group in question, it's arguably more sad that suicidals would be murdered especially if never given the opportunity to experience a life worth living.
