Marijuana:overrated or addicting

Please wait to hear what I have to say.

I'm not dissing anyone who does sit.I'm honestly not.

But from what I've been told marijuana is the most amazing mind blowing awe inspiring thing in the world. You do it,regret not doing it sooner, and really really really want to do it again cause it's so amazing. But then I hear it's not addictive(I know it's not physically addictive, but i'm talking about mentally).

Thing is,when I see the contrast I get the feeling that marijuana is either
a.)overrated or
b.)more mentally addicting than people let on.

I figure if it's that good then you must constantly want to do it againso there's no way it's not mentally addicting. But then I think,if it's not mentally addicting it can't be THAT amazing (not saying it's not fun or relaxing,it's just overrated).

Sooo honest answer please :)I need to know

Addicting 60

Sitting or standing, it can be enjoyable. It isn't for everyone. We are all different and some things effect people differently than others. I think you are forgetting our ability for self control. Sometimes it is exactly what I need/want but this doesn't mean I always want it. Kind of like sex, or chocolate.

I do not feel that it is addicting. I feel that it really can help some people. I feel like alcohol is way more addicting and dangerous. As long as you don't abuse this drug, I feel it can be a very helpful way to treat people with pain, depression, and other medical reasons. I feel like people should lay off of the andepressants and smoke more. I know that it will not agree with everyone so not everyone should do it. It should be a decision on an individual basis. I have heard that it freaks some people out, and I am not knocking people who take pills for depression. I really feel that it could benefit some people though.

I wouldn't describe it as mind blowing, but it IS pretty great. There's a reason why people smoke it, and there are WAY more people who do than you could possibly guess. However calling weed "overrated" is pretty insulting, something I would consider overrated is like sizurp or adderall... Or even cocaine. As for physical addiction there is none whatsoever, but mentally a person can want to smoke weed habitually in order to escape reality or whatever the reason might be. But the mental addiction, I would say, isn't nearly as intense as with cigarettes, coke, meth or any of those other addictive substances. For example LSD is not addictive, but someone can easily get hooked on tripping to escape their problems, therefor it's a mental addiction. But not really physically harmful in any way.

because saying it's overrated would mean people over-estimate it and glorify it for what it is not, when most people would agree that it is very glory-ful plant.

No offense to anyone in particular but I fucking HATE people who say marijuana is in no way addictive!

I smoked every day for 10 years (gave up just over 2 years ago now)
After a while I could easy smoke 2-3.5g a day, by myself, in between working a full-time job. Sometimes 4g's or more on a weekend/day off.

Sometimes I would smoke so much I would throw up, smoke again until I threw up & keep going until I got bored with it.
It wasn't that I was too high, it was just my body couldn't handle any more...

If I didn't smoke I would get angry (not irritable, ANGRY), sweat, be depressed, shake, feel hot & cold, feel sick, have migraines, couldn't eat, had bad anxiety, etc among many other things.

I gave up partly due to being sick of it, partly due to a girl I had just lost because of it but mainly because it was badly fucking with my body.
I got a big, hard painful lump behind each of my nipples & ALL the lymph nodes in my body (armpits, nipples, throat, etc) became swollen & sore. This went on for months, while i went to different doctors & specialists who all said it was weed.
I didn't believe any of them but when I stopped smoking... it magically went away!
Apparently you can't OD on weed but you can poison yourself with it, just like alcohol...

When I gave up I was lucky to total 2 hours sleep a night for 6 weeks. Had the equivelant of 1 meal a day for the same amount of time.
& all the stuff I mentioned above but to the extreme.
It was one of the hardest things I have done but also one of the best...

I don't regret it as it's made me who I am today but I do regret being on it for so long & to such extremes.

Anyway sorry for the long rant (I could go on all night) but I get pissed off when people say there's nothing wrong with it & no harm can come from it.

I know that it has messed with my head (& that will never be 100% fixed)
Like alcohol there's probably nothing wrong with it in moderation but don't be silly...

Urb when I 1st smoked it was genuinely amazing for about the 1st 50 times I smoked it. Id sit outside and listen to dogs bark and the way they sounded I could not have imagined before something could sound like that.

But right around then is when I did acid for my 1st time & let me tell you did my world from what it was before go upside down. It seemed I lived about a week in that trip mentality which is just about impossible to describe but after its done it occurred to me in such a weird way that this whole world is all in my head, just like a dream.

Those of you saying that you are suffering from severe withdrawals from prolonged smoking need to talk to/switch your dealer: YOUR SHIT IS LACED! Why the fuck do you think you're addicted to it and feel like shit, while others have awesome highs and function like normal people when they're not smoking? Find a small volume grower, watch them clip the shit, then pay for it. If you can't find one, then you genuinely don't care; they're EVERYWHERE, just ask around.

I smoke about once a week sometimes less or more. The first few times i didn't get much of a high. And I had also heard that its the best experience ever. I think its fun, but i am involved with sports and other stuff that i have funn doing that as well. I find it as something to do if i am not doing anything else. Its a good way to meet people and socialize, its diffentaly something ppl should try before they kick the bucket. YES ON I-1149

It is not mind blowing and it is not addictive. I've been smoking for 9 years every day, and recently stopped simply because I can't afford it right now. I am not going through withdrawals, i'm not having a mental breakdown, and i feel perfectly fine. Since we are talking about mental addiction, there is no such thing. It's called preference, I prefer to smoke pot because it makes the world and the people in it a lot less irritating to me. You feel happier when high, who doesn't want to feel happier? Even if your happy pot will make you happier. It's kinda like mood enhancing beverages, do people get addicted to them? should they be illegal? I thought the pot stigma was going away until i found this website, some of you are repeating what you have heard, but I'm sure have never researched it yourself. Here is one way to look at it. I recently went back to school after 9 years, I was smoking pot when i had my first two classes, I got an A+ in both. I recently stopped smoking because I can't afford it at the moment, since i stopped smoking i have completed two other classes in which I got B's. read into that as you will. 4.0GPA on pot 3.2GPA off pot.

same here! 2nd semester of my eleventh grade year i smoked weed more heavily than ever before then and i have always been one to make average grades and sometimes even not so good just because i have always been a horrible procrastinator. well anyway, I ended up making Principals List (all A's) twice that semester and I made honor roll (all A's and one B) the last grading period of the semester. and it felt effortless! all i would do is go to class and just do my work like normal, absolutely no extra time spent on studying or homework, i've honestly never been one to even take my backpack out of the car when i get home!

it depends on YOU, I can smoke a jay of some dank bud every day for a month and the next month be fine (I just sleep a little less cause I'm not tired) but some people have addictive tendencies, and bloody mountain dew is as addicting as crack to them... now that I think about it I get more of a withdraw after drinking a 2L mountain than smoking weed for a month lol

    Other consequences

    1) It may affect your job or getting hired. Many companies - especially if you're working with sensitive data or expensive items - will require both a drug test and a criminal background check.

    2) Memory loss. Marijuana is known for causing short term memory loss.

    3) Psychosis. Studies have shown that long-term use can result in hallucinations or delusions or to meet criteria for psychosis. In addition, people who already were vulnerable to psychosis were even more affected.

Remember, there will always be some individuals who will get angry when you point out what's wrong with getting high. The thing to consider is that they themselves may not - or may think they don't - have a problem. However those individuals often forget - or ignore - that each person has a different body and there are those who would react badly to marijuana.

Lastly... it's best to get your information from a truly credible source... instead of getting it from someone who may be trying to justify their own smoking habits.

Marijuana is a lot of things, all depending ones personal perspective. It has active uses as a medicinal plant, and I don't even considered it a drug. It's funny when I hear people(usually adults) talk about how stupid drugs are as they are drinking alcohol.. now alcohol is a drug. With that being said, cannabis can also be a huge motivation kill. I've seen this obviously displayed in a lot of friends growing up. I stopped smoking and they still are today.

from the ages of 15-21, i was a heavy pot smoker. i can honestly say there were 10 days at most during those years that i didn't smoke. i can personally attest to it's damaging effects. it stunts your mental development, essentially causing you twice as long to wise up and get your life in gear. i blacked out a couple times and had a few anxiety/panic attacks and that was it. i quit it cold and never looked back. but there were mental addictions i had to battle with at first, but it was easy knowing i could possibly have another panic attack. if anyone here's ever had one, they you know it's simply the most inexplicable, sudden feeling of utter dismay. no way i'd ever take the chance of having one again. but i think i was also ready to grow up.

I diss it, and I smoked for 10 years. Reason why I diss it is because it led me to other drugs. I got bored with the marijuana high after awhile and tried harder drugs (which were much more enjoyable)

Which is cool if im just being lazy at my house or something but everyones reacts difderen to it and i think its actually pretty addicting. More than people think

I smoked weed all day everyday for about a year and I tell ya, when I was struggling to get hold of weed I would be in a terrible state, I think it is totally un-true that weed is not addictive, because I was addicted.

I stopped smoking weed a few months ago and I even had physical withdrawal, I was sick for a few days and was shaking like crazy.

So glad I don't feel like I need weed anymore :)

Uh, that's tough, it can be both or neither. Marijuana IS a drug, anyone who thinks otherwise is spouting nonsense. It does not affect everyone the same way. It might affect you very profoundly, it may not affect you at all. You may decide you like it so much you want to see what everything you've enjoyed before straight will be like when stoned, too. You may decide it doesn't make you feel well, emotionally or physically.
Most people just get goofy, lose track of time, get hungry. If you've had laughing gas, I would kind of put MJ one step above that in terms of being in control of your facilities. In contrast, many psychedlic type drugs, marijuana does not severely impair ones sense of self-awareness, or judgment.

As far as addiction goes, for every person out there, there's a drug that hook them. Depends on the type of person. You don't know what that drug will be until you realize you've taken it too much and it's too late. Getting addicted to marijuana is a fortunate fate compared to those addicted to nicotine, alcohol, and hard drugs. I'll always miss smoking MJ the rest of my life, but it's not a big deal - there's nopart of me that feels like I physically need it. The mental addiction is always a b!tch, no matter what the substance, or if your addiction is even a substance at all!

So there is nothing about the anxiety and panic attacks caused by smoking cannabis? i enjoyed cannabis when i was 15 16, but now even a small hit brings on a feeling of despair and anxiety. my first panic attack was in a music college, i was sat in class stoned out of my head then all of a sudden i began to feel hot, stuffy almost claustrophobic. my heart began to race , i checked my pulse and it was throbbing hard, this made the situation worse, a sense of impending doom overwhelmed me. alot of you cannabis smokers will continue to enjoy smoking for the rest of your lives but an unfortunate few will experience the same anxiety and stress i sometimes suffer with.

I know what you mean, I've gone through the same thing more than once. But I think what a lot of people dont realize is that everytime you smoke weed, it's different from the last. Every strand of pot is different. You can buy a bag of normal (reg) weed one week and buy a bag of normal reg weed the next week but chances are, they will be different. Weed with high thc content is actually known for producing psychotic feelings and thoughts in people (such as paranoia, anxiety, panic, etc...) which is why i dont understand how so many people brag about how great their "trainwreck" or "kush" is, but i suppose that like weed, all people are different too, and respond to things differently. But if you do choose to ever smoke pot again, I would suggest going against the usual cannabis sativa and going for some cannabis indica with lower thc levels and higher cbd levels. the higher the cbd content, the more chilling effect (happiness and giggles) the weed has on people, usually. good luck! =)

Mentally addicting is the proper way of putting it. You might want to do it again but there is little to no physical addiction. It's a drug that is easy to put aside for me; I've quit weed many times with no real difficulties. Of course, the fact that I quit many times means that I kept coming back to it.

For me, it's not the best drug that I have taken but it is the safest. I have lately decided not to smoke weed ever again because it gets me too anxious. Still one of the safest drugs on the market.

Marijuana is an addicting drug. I don't care who you are, it is. And it leads to bigger drugs. If it wasn't addicting, then why would so many people do it to get a high? So, it's overrated and addictive. I haven't done it because I don't particularly like the idea of frying my brain cells out.

  • hey ive been smoking weed on and off for a good 3 years so im no top smoker but im not any push over when it comes to drugs ive taken my fair share of diffrent types of drugs and tbh to me weed is the best not because the effects are better than any other drug out there but because its one of the safest ways of doing it because its the most natural drug out there that accutaly does something of course just because its natural doesnt make it legal therefore im not telling you to smoke it im just giving my opinion, but theres always the problem nowa days with any drugs people are finding new ways to fake it like the other week one of my friends bought some "skunk" off a well nown dealer but after smoking one zoot his throat was ripped to shreads and he found out afterwards it was because the so called "skunk" he had bought was sprayed with thin glass to make it look like it had thc crystals on it, but theres always gunna be a risk of getting poor or weed and sometimes this isnt the worst thing in the world because the higher the weed is the more likely it is to be skunk wich is when the plants are filled with chemicals to make the high more intense but for no smokers this can be a bad thing because there not always expecting what happens so if you want my choice if i was you i would find one of your friends (and weed is smoke so much one of your friends will smoke or atleast no someone that does) and your better off joining them for a smoke and starting off small because no matter what anyone tells you it can be mentaly addictive, trust me!

I think a good test is this: When talking about things that aren't vital to life ("extras" or recreational things)--If it (whatever "it" may be) was taken away from you for the rest of your life, and you have anxiety about that, then you're addicted to "it" to some degree at least. It could be TV or alcohol or chocolate cake or whatever....if you have a problem with it being gone from your life, then obviously you have an addiction to it.

Also...there's negative consequences to smoking weed (as there is with other things as well). If you say fuck the consequences, I'm doing this anyway, then that says you have an addiction.

    Hello:

Do not know any of your ages, but I was a Teen in the 1960's during the Hippie Movement and I watched alot of my friends, including my brother, blow their minds out using this shit. It is both mentally and physically addictive. It has been 40 years now, and they all wished they could go back and change, but instead they are walking zombies, can somewhat function, but cannot work, or do everyday chores. Plus if you do decide to quit, the Flash Backs that you could get are horrible, you see things like my friends Demons and other shit like that.

PLEASE, I BEG OF YOU DO NOT TRY THE SHIT.
