Managing rude people

Hi,
How you guys doing? Today I am going to talk about a little unusual topic ie Managing rude people. Many times we come across people who don't treat us the way we expect them to do. They greet us rudely, pass nasty comments and we feel negativity when they are around us. These people can be employees working under us, colleagues, bosses and sometimes friends. So how to manage these people? How to retain our calm and composure and get work done from such people? How to use these people productively to our advantage like employees working under us or simply work with these people in the same team.

The reason why I selected this topic is because I faced similar situation today.
I was told to mind my own business without even slightly provocating my colleague. And hence I am determined to learn how to deal with these people as we cannot ignore such people as we will meet them in different walks of life.

When faced with such situation I feel bad and I am not able to concentrate on the task at hand. the result is my whole day is wasted. After retrospecting I have decided to change myself as I cannot change the other person. Taking such people with pinch of salt and immediately clearing the differences with the other person, forgetting and ignoring such incidents are some ways I will handle such people.

I would really appreciate your feedback and similar experiences that you might have faced. Please tell also how you deal with such people , how to work with these people in the same team or workgroup so that everyone is happy.

Bye.

Usually when somones a bitch to me, I think homicidal thoughts about the person till I feel better. It works for me.

There's rude individuals everywhere.. (going to the movies, shopping, working)..but usually -if someone's rude to you then it's best not to take it personally. They're most likely upset about their own problems and are trying to take it out on you. Just ignore the jerks.

"How to use these people productively to our advantage like employees working under us or simply work with these people in the same team."

das your problem.. either work as a team with, them being AWARE of it, or spend your life trying to USE these people productively for your advantage.. i'm sorry people, fucking suck.. they're probably way more rude on the internet than if your face-to-face with em..

but you are a manager of a store? or a manager of something like this website? if you work in a store than strap on a pair and tell your "employees" that you can fire them at any time.. if it's anything like this site, then you're SOL (or delete everything, yea, idk..)

It is tough management, as we have sacrifice over ego and sometimes self respect, Ignoring maybe an option but it doesn't work all the time, some rude asshole also want u to let down in every sphere of your working area and normally they knock out good souls by hurting their self respect n ego on routine bases.

you are right, that the only person you can change is yourself (whether you let it upset you or not). rude people are always going to be out there.

sometimes, you never know, a person can be going through the most horrible time, and they come across as rude.

as far as difficult co-workers, i have always chosen to make them "think" i like them. i don't go out of my way, but it works wonders.

employees are a different matter. if they are rude to you, their boss, then that is insubordination, and you need to follow company policy on that.

the public (the worst, in my opinion) is just to ignore the rudeness, as they will do their business and be on their way.

Your solution on clearing the differnces is a good way to see it. But not if it entails to much change on your side.

While working in a team you have to realise one thing. You are in it together. While partisipating in team exercises with the british infantry and such. I have noticed as anyone else would. The key to team work is comunication. Put away your differnces to get the task done.

Back to rude people. My useual method is to ignore them, also. Sometimes this is not a posability though. In this case when confronted by the rude person or persons is to try and understand why they feel the need to be rude. If their points are valid then I would try to come to a solution. If not (and it usely isnt) Try to calm them down in best a way you can. Some would sugest humoring them. I have tryed this and it offen works well... but isnt very confidence boosting. I like to solve the realy rude and ignorant confontors with something well known as a glasgow kiss.

Sometimes you just gotta play the game.
