Making jokes about suicide

Since I was 12 I have been suicidal, I even attempted it a few times. Despite this I make jokes about suicide, and me killing myself. Is it normal to be so comfortable joking about something so serious that I went through?

A man went into a library and asked for a book on how to commit suicide.

The librarian said: "Fuck off, you won't bring it back."

As if they have books on that. The person would be dead before they finished.

WHY ARE THESE BOOKS! Should start to sue people. Shouldn't the cashier at the book store be concerned someone is buying these? How the hell is this legal? I have no faith in the legal system anymore.

It's called freedom of speech, freedom of the press, freedom of expression and so on.

Yes but people are suppose to report someone who is going to commit suicide. That and it puts the person writing the book in danger of being sued. Since if someone says "They killed them-self because of this book" the family of the suicide victim has a right to sue. So they are putting themselves at huge risk by even publishing this kind of stuff.

Yeah, I think it's kind of okay for people who have dealt with an issue to joke about it. I used to cut and I joke about it all the time, but I hate it when non-cutters joke about it.

I was going to make a suicide joke, but I pulled the trigger too early! :D

No, it's not. I hate when people joke about things as serious as this.

I find it's comforting to joke about something that I used to or still do view as a serious problem; I guess it makes the issue seem less serious.

I use "kill yourself" as an insult. There's nothing wrong with it

    As a somewhat suicidal person,
I do kind of find it offensive to a certain degree.
For example, you don't tell a obviously depressed person to go " Jump off a bridge" or, " Kill yourself."
I mean if you do, then you're an asshole
and this is coming from a person who enjoys dark humor.

    Just my opinion though.

I joke about suicide too since I'm an atheist, anti-natalist nihilist. I wish I were never born and I wonder why we can't leave the unborn alone and stop procreating.

Seriously. I have heard people with your point of view, wishing they were never born. But none of them can give me a straight answer as to why they don't just kill themselves. So really, not even trying to be an asshole. Why don't you kill yourself?

I talked about that just the other day upon hearing the news of a 17 year-old girl's suicide. The person I was talking to claimed that adolescents always seem to be dramatic and overreact because of small problems and some end up taking their lives without thinking it through. I on the other hand disagree and believe there's an inherent anguish to those individuals that cannot be soothed in any way they can think of except ending it all. That would obviously end the pain they feel.

As for the ones who are always being dramatic, if you take notice, they usually go in the direction of "Oh, I want to die!" "I want to die" is another way of saying "I want my problems to go away". Wanting to die, or being angry that you were born don't imply in or mean the same as wanting to kill yourself.

If you feel it is best, you have my support. Who am I to tell you what to do with your own life. I support your right to choose. Good luck, don't leave a mess.
