Love among the ashes
I imagined us always as healthy and free
Beloved by fate through eternity
Hearts and minds merged, bodies safe from decay
We were children of fortune, with so many days
But children must all grow up finally
they get old and start losing things
keys and purses, good health and then minds
yours was lost slowly; a victim of time
I kiss your pale, lifeless lips
although you no longer know me
your eyes fixed on a distant rip
in wallpaper yellowed and grim
Your waxen skin so withered and stiff
still I burn with old memories
your eyes and hips, full breasts and lips
I savor each flaw and perfection
I promised the moon to you so long ago
but your cries turned the moonlight to rust
your moans now serve no real intent
but to tell me that you haven't died yet
So cold and so very silent
the night lingers on with no end
your face still warm beneath my kiss
oh wilted Rose, my love still lives
