Looks prejudice vs other prejudices

It's become totally unnacceptable in society now to be prejudiced towards someone due to color or sexual orientation and people are now very careful not to do it, so why is it still so acceptable and wipespread being prejudiced towards someone unattractive?

because there are still lots of insecure and simple-minded people who's only value can be derived from satisfying basic needs; and so they project that onto other people as well

I completely agree, it's no different. You were born that way, just as if you had been born gay or black.

  • Because money like usual. Until the beauty industry stops telling everyone how to look, we'll never move past it.

It really comes down to natural selection, so i guess you could blame nature for it.

    • I guess nature could be some of it, because I've known how even babies can get more scared by looking at an ugly face than a good looking face, and they're not old enough to understand the influence from the beauty industry and how the media tells us how we should look. However, some white babies may also get scared off by a black face, or a black baby getting scared by a white face, so you can't just blame society and the beauty industry for adults being shallow, people still must learn as they grow up how to still respect someone no matter how they look whether it's color or attractiveness.

    Simply because beauty is undefinable.

    • I agree somewhat in beauty being in the eye of the beholder, but you do have some people who the majority will find attractive and some who a larger percentage of people will find unattractive.

I think it's because people have no control over their race or orientation but usually they have some control over how they look. Even if they were born "unattractive", they can make themselves look as neat and presentable as possible. It comes down to self-respect in the end. People think that anyone who can't be bothered with how they look won't care about much of anything else.

    • Self respect and making yourself look more presentable can definitely help, but there are more physical aspects to looks in which no way in how you dress and present yourself will make some people rugged, handsome, or beautiful. So unless your clothes or presentation itself is noticeably standing out in a bad way, then getting mistreated in how you look is definitely a prejudice. If someone gets mistreated due to anything they can't help, it's a prejudice. And it's sad, because looks prejudice is definitely still more exceptable and widespread than racial or sexual orientation prejudices today.
