i spend hours on the phone with my boyfriend and his family hates it. they think i'm a burden when all i've really been doing is helping him out. i'm talking like 6 hours on the phone in the afternoon, all night and as soon as he calls in the morning. we don't see each other much at all. To be exact, once every two months. i think it's okay but his family begs to differ and would kill to seperate us. is it normal??

    If you are paying for the phone time that you spend talking to him, then that will help your case.

    The amount of time you are spending on the phone is a lot (sorry, but it's true). Most adults don't spend so much time on the phone, even with the people they are in love with - mostly because they are very busy working and taking care of their families, so it makes sense that your parents don't understand why you do it.

    There have been times when my husband has had to work in another city, and when he does, we talk on the phone every day for about 30-60 minutes. I understand the need to talk to the person you love on a daily basis, but being on the phone as much as you are is too much.

    Think of it this way: If you cut back to maybe an hour or two a day, wouldn't you reserve your conversations for the most important things, instead of just babbling on and on about anything that pops into your head? You would also have more time to actively participate in YOUR life.

    i dont quite understand how you on the phone for hours is helping him out. who pays for this excessive phone usage? if i had a kid and they were spending hours everyday on the phone racking up a massive bill then i would ban them all together from using the phone and tell them to find a boy/girl friend who lives in the same city so they could get out of the house to see them and not spend all day on the couch doing nothing and just talking to someone. i dont find that kind of relationship healthy or in any way good, sorry.

    Why do you only see eachother once every 2 months? Are you happy with that arrangement?

    It's normal for family to butt in and talk smack at whatever they don't like or approve of. It might be more of an issue that they have with the relationship, not an issue with phone use. If it were constantly txting, they might complain about that too.

    Its normal for family to be this way. It causes stress in the relationship cause one party feels bad and the other may feel torn between their partner and their family.

    Another thing is if they only have one phone line and he's tying up the phone talking to you. It can annoy people if they want to use the phone and it is always unavailable, or if they get a high phone bill cause of the long calls. If the calls affect his availability (like if family calls him out of his room and he doesn't listen), some family members may get upset and cause them to complain.

    I've been through all that, and its never fun. He's gotta be willing to ignore the family's bs or it'll just cause problems between the two of you.
