Living with parents at 24

Is it normal to live at home at 24. I graduated last year, but working temp jobs until I can find a full-time job. The co-workers at my current job have let me know i'm going to be let go, my parents at the same time are telling me to move out. They said i'm "embarrassing them". They say because their friends children are moved out, so should I. They said that I need to move out and it's all in my head, but it's not. I mean if i move out, my credit is toast, I can't afford a apartment with no income. I'm applying at 10 jobs a day all over the united states and looking for other opportunities also. Is it normal for parents to be like this?

I'm sorry to hear you guys are in shitty situations, however you parents should realize that they raised you and for your entire life are somewhat responsible for your well being.

Normal and very common. But if you don't like it do something about. My parents help pay my rent and bills at my house. Ask them for that. You make a deal and sort out the arrangements. Its just a suggestion....

They wont help me at all. In fact, they are making me get my own cell plan and insurance which is way more than playing my share when i was on their plan.

I am 27 and living with my parents during my education. As soon as I am done, I'm shooting off. It's actually becoming increasingly normal, this decade, for people in their 20s to live with their parents.

This post reminds me of all of the college graduates I know. They live with their parents or friends because college didn't give them the career they were promised, but instead crippling debt and they're feeding their kids by doing minimum wage retail work. They feel cheated, lied to, and like they wasted their money. Your parents seem out of touch with what's going on in today's world.

It's sad that they want you to move out, because of what their friends may thing :(. That's pretty cold... It's a different world from when they grew up... good luck with your job applications!

Your parents have failed. They should show more respect to their child. shame on them.

Stay a child as long as you can. Take care of your parents every need so they will bless you greatly when ever you decide to move out. Great support sweetheart

  • Sheesh. I moved out a while back and got my own place and ever since my parent wants me back with them. I wouldn't know how you feel but it must be worrying and heartbreaking for your parents to not support you just because other parents don't need to for their kids, as if your parents don't realize everyone's circumstances are different.

Don't know anything that could help but can say, morally, don't feel bad. You've done nothing wrong.

Unfortunately yes, it is normal and common for parents to throw the kids out at that age. They probably just want whats best and think that if they threaten you, you'll get a job quicker and work harder. They just don't want to pay for you anymore.
