Live music makes me want to commit suicide, iin?

Let me just make it clear, that I'm not talking about music with particularly sad, depressing, or angry lyrics. It can be pretty much any kind of music.
My boyfriend's family is a musical family, and every Sunday afternoon, they play in a full band together, and I got to hear them play. The music they played was so haunting. This feeling came over me, that I was sure that I would die of suicide someday, if not soon.
I've noticed a few things: I never feel this way if I performing in the group, I'm a part of it, but not performing in the group at the time (only sometimes) ,or if it's choral music/a capella (only sometimes). The more elaborate the music, the more stressful the music is for me to hear, meaning if there's a combination of different instruments, like drums, bass, violin, piano, lead guitar, all in one song. If the music is particularly beautiful, I might need to leave the room. Sitting very far from chamber music or otherwise a small ensemble is doable, but still difficult. The closer I am in distance and personal contact, the more I'll get anxious and nervous, feelings of terror.
I thought this was normal, but I'd never heard of anyone else that feels that way. That's why Hieronymous Bosch's Garden of Earthly Delights strikes a powerful chord with me because the 3rd panel has people being tortured by instruments in Hell. But anywhere else, no one I've asked seems to understand my aversion (?not sure?) to listening/being in the presence of live music.

  • It's weird how some people are effected by music in negative ways. I don't understand it other than being annoyed by certain songs. Otherwise music is always positive for me. I really like music most people find angry and disturbing but it is enegertic to me.
I'm a musician and I have heard some unusual responces from others even about my own music.
A couple responces I have heard about songs I have made are... Wanting to do drugs such as heroin or acid. The song attracts negative energy or demons. The song signifantly upset them (depressed, angry, annoyed, scared, etc.). I haven't heard anyone say suicidal though.
The negative reactions were not my intention but it seems people are effected by things in strange ways sometimes.

    • It's weird because I can still enjoy music... From a CD or from Youtube is fine. It's the live music that gets me out of it. What I described above is my controlled state. I used show that I was disturbed by crying and slamming myself into walls, sometimes in public and would end up needing to find an enclosed, dark area to reside in. It helps. I now just try to move away from the area to keep my feelings in check.

Sounds like a phobia to me - it's certainly an irrational fear. Not normal.

    • That actually might make sense... I wonder if there's a phobia that corresponds to this....

Hmm...well so was I, but honestly it's rather odd to feel so bad at the sound of live music. Have you always had this or is it a recent development?

        What did you march with?

I feel annoyed with live music...I'm not much of a music fan and I only listen to the radio. So I usually don't stay long when a band is playing so in my case it is normal and I don't see anything wrong with it. It's just my preference. I think wanting to commit suicide over that, however is just plain ridiculous.

    • Why do you think you get annoyed with it?

I know why I get annoyed with it. I'm quite a conservative person, the sounds of the instruments are too in my face...
