Liking movies w/ negative reviews

Is it normal to like movies that get negative reviews? For example, the other day I watched the movie Simon Says starring Crispin Glover. I thought it was really cool, but when I went online and looked it up, almost everyone was talking about how horrible they thought it was.

Also, my brother really loves the SciFi (SyFy) Original Movie Primal Force starring Ron Perlman, but everyone thinks it's so terrible that the director even refuses to put it on DVD!

Do not say that my brother and I have horrible tastes in movies, because we both like other movies that are critically acclaimed. For example, I like Amadeus and we both like Sweeney Todd.

    Never let anyone tell you what to like or what not to like. Just like what you REALLY like regardless of what others like.

    different people have different tastes for example i dont like avatar but everyone loves it the reviews are the critics and a minority of people who saw it dont worry wat they think its all about wat u think of the film

    I like to watch movies sometimes BECAUSE they're bad. For instance, The Room. They make for good comedies, sometimes moreso than comedies that actually try to be funny. With that said, everyone has their own tastes. I too feel that Avatar and Star Wars are overrated. Give me Taxi Driver any day :D

    I'm going to upset a lot of people here, but movie ratings are a "sheep index". Same with books, music, clothes, everything. If you like something that the general populace doesn't like and you're not afraid to stand up and tell people that you like it then you - my friend - are braver, more free-thinking, and an infinitely better person than anyone who hangs onto the lowest common denominator.

    In short - people with average tastes don't amount to very much. Average tastes make average people. Don't get me wrong, it's okay to love something that everyone else loves (Star Wars, Back to the Future, Bill & Ted, for example). But you don't add anything to culture with these things. Where you become something quite special is where you find the thing that is a little bit different (and not liked) and then develop it further.

    My friends always give me shit about how I like, "all the movies with only 1 copy at the movie store." I guess I like unpopular movies, too. Oh well, if someone didn't think it was good, it wouldn't have been released, right? Go with what you like.
