Let child drink alcohol on new years?

Hello all, I was just wondering if it is okay to let my 7, 8 and 15 year old sons to drink a glass of champagne on New Years. Any feedback is suggested, though it is past and I have let them, I would like to know for next year if it is bad!

Meh Champagne isn't that strong. I would say okay for 15. 7 and 8 is a bit young, they could have had a sip.

I think it's fine. I probably started having glasses of wine or a few sips of Baileys when I was about 12 or 13 for Christmas and New Year's. It's normal.

It is acceptable in France as that is part of the culture. Not too sure about anywhere else, though. Depending on where you live, you could get in a lot of trouble for this.

With regard to alcohol my family had a much more European attitude and I feel that was a good thing. No one ever got out of control or weird, they are all pretty much moderate drinkers. It's never been a big deal.

Lucky you. I think that is good because it doesn't make it into something that is taboo.

I let my 4 year old taste fine, imported beers and wines. I remember my dad letting me taste nasty beer at the same age, so I wanted to be a better parent.

I definitely would not initiate it...but if a late teen asked me ....I would say a sip...one sip

When I was little I was allowed to have a small amount of wine with more formal family dinners for as long as I can remember and as a result alcohol has never really been a big deal for me. I feel like I have better control when it comes to drinking because it doesn't hold any mystique for me the way it might for people who were raised in more prohibitive households. I also would add that there's no history of addiction on either side of my family.

I had my first beer on Christmas day when I was 6...I have been battling alcoholism for 5 years.

Yeah, get those kids drunk, hoping it doesn't lead their lives to alcoholism.
