Last media product that made you cry?

I've never cried at a film, tv series, video game or book before, not a lot really moves me but i've just finished the first series of the walking dead game and cried like a baby at the final few minutes, sore throat, wet cheeks the lot.

So

What was the last thing that moved you to the point of tears?

"The Unnamed" by Joshua Ferris is probably the last book that made me cry. It's basically a story about a completely successful and fulfilled man who has a seemingly harmless mental disorder, where he has an uncontrollable compulsion to walk. It's just a story about how his entire life slowly unravels in the most horrifying way, and it's kind of a reminder of all the people that slip through the cracks of the mental health system.

I've always had a great deal of empathy towards people with mental health problems; I hope that comes across here on the site.

    It was either:

    - Charlie Chaplin's speech in The Great Dictator:

    Or

    - The last episode of True Detective, when Rust cries.

  • A really good and depressing animation movie is "It's Such A Beautiful Day". It's about a mans decent into psychosis as his reality falls apart. A lot of the movie reminded me of things I've been through. The characters are stick figures who don't speak and its all narrated and while the production is simple it is also very well made.
I would like to be an animator myself and this is close to the kind of stuff I would want to make.

nice, same about wanting to be an animator.. have you ever done any animations? and do you know about the 11 second club?

      • I made one animation in high school. It is about 3 minutes. The story was some kids went and blew up an outhouse and then other toilets came to life to take revenge and kill them. I should put it on youtube. I would use youtube more but they always censored me and banned me from making comments. No free speech there.
I have not heard of the 11 second club.

A few years ago I watched an anime movie called Adolescence of Utena(it was a different adaptation of the Revolutionary Girl Utena series). One scene that I will not mention made me cry. Now when I watch it, I don't cry at all, but it still makes me sad seeing it again.

Might check that out, speaking of depressing anime have you ever seen grave of the fireflies? Rough watch but it's a great film

The Revolutionary Girl Utena anime uses a lot of stock footage and has a few mindfuck moments. It also has that boring old school shoujo element to it about "girls being able to do anything." I'm not sure if you'd like it.

I just looked up Grave of The Fireflies, and you're right, it seems depressing. I might give it a go.

I love mindfuck moments, rubber reality and David lynch etc,

Tbh I have no idea what shoujo means which just makes me want to watch it more haha, I'm always up for tying New things and I don't watch much anime so I'll give it a go.

Yeah grave of the fireflies is bleak, the only ghibli film I'd seen before was totoro so I was expecting something completely different

For anime on LSD, I'd recommend the movie Paprika:

For anime with paranoid schizophrenia, I'd recommend the moviePerfect Blue:

Shoujo is a genre that's made for a female audience. Though I know a few dudes who have watched it :) All the English episodes are on YouTube if you really want to see it. :)

The only thing about that Walking Dead game that made me cry was finding out that it didn't matter what reaction you picked the game just plays out the same way anyway.

Exactly, some things are beyond your control despite feeling like you might be able to save people, you can't, plus its about the journey and how you reacted to it and the relationships you changed,pPlus they had a strong story to tell, I can see your point though

It's really not, you decide which characters can make it with you but a certain amount of people are set deaths, even the set deaths can die at different times and in different way with different motivations depending on your choices, even the bit with carley is completely different if you didn't save her in the first episode

I have no idea what you're talking about, but from your description it sounds like really lazy writing, and most of all forgetting what a "game" is.

My description may be but you can't judge the game without playing it, what a game is is subjective, I can understand when people say dear Esther isn't a game but walking dead has combat, puzzl solving and exploration and a failure state ,it's a game

Although I have to admit ( spoilers) after finding out I couldn't save carley I nearly stopped playing but to me that just showed how much I cared about the characters and world

Honestly nothing, I seem to have lost the ability to cry at anything. I watched a film called Salo which seemed to put me in a state of melancholy for a few days, I couldn't stop thinking about.
