Joint accounts or not?

For people entering a new relationship in their 30s, is it more common to eventually have joint accounts or not?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated?

Three accounts, from someone who lost everything to a wife of 14 years.
    1 for you
    1 for her
    1 for household/living expenses
    Good luck.

Well it depends on your situation.

When I was in a relationship, we had a joint account to pay bills/expenses and a common savings account for holidays/large purchases for the house etc. We both kept our personal accounts for personal expenses and savings.

    • What about going to he cinemas or dinner together? Did you use to split the bill?

We had a separate suffix for entertainment in our joint account.

I opened an account with the Bank of Nigeria. Can you wire transfer into our account so I can pay the security fee for the 18 million dollars an ex prince of Nigeria has promised?

Joint IIN account, not a joint bank account with someone on IIN.

          "Counterfeit.Dinz"

Such a fitting name for our joint IIN account.

I'll create the account and you can pay for the Gold.

  • There is no reason to ever do this.

It is not normal. It shows distrust in the relationship....or wanting to show off as mrs or mr so and so.

I have made this a demand if my BF and I move in together since he has an addiction problem and I want to make sure that the bills, food and other living expenses are 100% covered before I hand him back his money for him to do what he wants with.

That is as long as he wants to continue making love to Mary Jane.

    • He is addicted to marijuana? Meh...that isn't really bad at all. It has been legalized in two states here in the US for recreational use. I am surprised that Sweden of all places has not done the same yet too. It is better he be smoking mary jane rather than drinking everyday and becoming a violent asshole. You are lucky. But I do think it is kind of pathetic that you would have to hold his money like his mom so he wont spend it all on weed...lol...

I know, it's nothing bad really. Even though my mum acts as if he's addicted to fucking crack. He claims to be able to hold in his money and pay the important stuff first and this far I really don't have a reason to doubt him with that but I am VERY careful when it comes to avoiding getting behind with bills/rent myself and I'd feel safer if I was in charge of the money at first until I have seen that it works out you know?

I don't mind him smoking a lot because he goes to his job, he pays his bills and all that but he isn't good with holding onto his cash and is of the mentality that he can spend his last cash on weed and then be super poor for the last week, whilst I want him to be able to enjoy a Pizza or something.

Due to some events my parents found out about the weed and now they fear that I'll get addicted too and that we will eventually turn into hardcore drugs and become addicted to those. It's really silly that some people have this opinion of weed ... I'd obviously NOT have dated him if I thought that he was behaving poorly whilst high or something.

In fact, him being high makes it easier for him to put up with my fucking bullshit and my moodswings.
