Jesus said to love everyone...

It makes me really mad when I see religous people holding anti "queer" signs, talking about how we're going to hell, or whatever. Jesus said to love all men, to forgive, to love your enemies, but most "religious" people do the complete opposite of that. God is supposed to be uplifting and cheerful, not hateful and depressing. I just want to go to those people and say "Jesus said to love everybody, heretic". I'm not a strong church person, but it really ticks me off. is it normal to feel so strongly about something I'm not even really into?

As someone who grew up in a very Christian household, I think many people miss the main point of what they are trying to say. They're not saying "You faggot heathen cunt you should go to hell because God hates you". They are specifically condemning the behaviour. They're saying that they believe that if you continue with the anti-Christian behaviour, you will go to hell. They're not trying to be hateful against people, they feel they are trying to save you. A common Christian saying is "Love the sinner, hate the sin". They are not protesting against the sinner, but what they see to be the sin itself. So yes, they do believe that "Jesus loves everyone", but what Jesus doesn't love (according to them) is their behaviour.

For example, if parents are protesting children crossing a busy road intersection without a traffic light, they are not hating on the children crossing the road, but the dangerous act itself. In that light, those Christians are not hating on the gays/non-Christians/etc. themselves, but on the behaviour.

There are exceptions, such as the WBC, but those are deviants.

For most religious people, it's not about hate, it's about fear. They have a fear of God's "wrath" if they tolerate blatantly sinful behavior, such as homosexuality, abortion, sexual freedom, having kids without two parents... They see a lot of these behaviors as morally sinful and believe that tolerating it somehow contributes to it and that the country will become corrupt far beyond the point of God's mercy, especially when these sinful behaviors are tolerated and the people committing it don't even feel it's wrong.

Take for instance, the rise in single parent households (unmarried mothers) and the fall in test scores and parental involvement in children's lives coupled with the adderal epidemic and the supposed rise in school shootings. They see a lot of statistics that the country's moral fabric is going down the toilet and attribute it to more causes (and somewhat inaccurate causes) than can actually be held responsible for this alleged "moral decay". It's the country turning away from God and God's morality is the only correct morality because when more people obeyed it, the world was in better shape, morally.

For most religious individuals, it's not about hate. It's about fear that complacency makes them just as guilty by association. I'm no longer a religious person for many reasons, mainly convenience based, but this is what I am telling you from about a decade of experience as a regular church goer in many churches.

You reminded me of something I heard recently. More children are raised with a pet in the household than a father.

But your comment is spot on and I think you worded it well. Its not about the act or behaviour specifically, its that dear of god and moral decay. And then manipulating statistics to fit your agenda.

So if you think about it, pets are a great addition to the family.

I think it's ironic how Christians are the ones that push people away from God more than any other people group on the planet. Jesus loves everyone, but Christians are so focused on certain sins that they go on these huge protests to go against it. What I don't understand is why they're more stronger against homosexuality than any other sin on the planet. You see all these protestors saying "God hates fags" and it pushes gay people away from even considering God as anything more than a hateful bigot. Yes, God hates sin, but all sin is equal. Most of the people protesting against gays probably lie all the time, cuss, drink, and have sex outside of marriage. I wish Christians would open their eyes, quit judging people for being gay, (which I, as a Christian, truly believe people can't help for the most part,) and love everyone no matter what they're doing. Because everyone is a sinner. Everyone is going to do wrong every single day. It's just human nature. Jesus said to love everyone, and some Christians just focus on the sinful stuff and judge people without realizing it, pushing more and more people away from God every single day. It sickens me.

I don't know when people will finally get it - most of you never will, probably.

The thing is, most people who are dissatisfied with their lives will take it out on others, and - most people are too cowardice to come out and say what they think, so they hide behind things like religion and God. But there really is no-God there.

Live your life and don't waste your emotions or you energy with thinking about those ass-clowns, I say.

Jesus also said to give everything to the poor and follow him, I don't see that happening any time soon either.
