I haven't had my 3 year old grandson stay the night with me in weeks because he wakes up at 1 in the morning - even though he goes to sleep every night by 8 pm - he wakes up at 1am -

    I was a kid who required very little sleep and grew into an adult who requires very little. My parents tried to synchronise my bedtime with theirs as much as they could (I went to bed at 1am at the age of four) and they also found things for me to do quietly before they woke up.

    I'm not suggesting this is the right approach but it seemed to work for them.
