It's spelt masturbate! not masterbate
Is it normal that so many people can't spell masturbate properly? It really gets on my nerves.

Not to brag, but I am extremely good at spelling (no, seriously) and I can't stand it when simple, everday words are spelt incorrectly. Gets on my nerves, and it makes me wonder - if they can't spell basic words, how do they spell more intricate, technical words? There's someone in my school (sixth form) who spelt laugh as "larf" (when I was reading through one of my friend's essays) and I just put my head in my hands.
I'm just being silly here but you misspelt everyday =P
But I agree it gets right on my nerves when people either can't (for no good reason) or won't spell correctly.
Speaking and language is how we express ourselves and seeing it being ruined and disrespected with sloppy usage makes me facepalm hard.
I have to admit, I double-checked every word you wrote in the hopes of finding a misspelling.
I then double-checked this comment before I posted it...
I think what they say is correct. To them it's not masturbating, it's masterbating.
I believe a pair of pliers and a blowtorch are involved.
And several small rodents.
"Spelt" IS grammatically correct. It's just not used very often in the US.
May I ask what you are reading where you encounter the word "masturbate" so often??
People suck at spelling these days. It's a huge pet peeve of mine to see misspelled words, including masturbate.
When people misspell it "masterbate" it makes me think of the Masterball from Pokemon.
I am no whiz at grammar but I hate bad spelling. If it's intentionally done and has a purpose then I don't mind. Say for instance I want to express myself in a Southern vernacular or I'm trying to be Ebonically sound in my expression.
What is a masterbater? How exactly does one bate per se? What qualifies said person as a master of the bate?
