It's ruining my life

I'm used to being very beautiful, but within the last 6 months my chin has started sprouting a tonne of zits. I have around 7 or 8 at any one time. The scarring is very bad too. I thought by the age of 20 I should have perfect skin. Now I feel very uncomfotable around people and don't go out any more. Is it normal that I am willing to sacrifice a normal life just because I feel really ugly?

Acne isn't fun. Of the thousands of supposed miracle cures, the only one that actually worked for me was prescription accutane/isotretinonin. That stuff doesn't mess around.

there are so many options! go see a dermatologist. get some prescription cream. if that doesn't work go on Accutane. get a chemical peel. there are so many options for people with terrible skin. my sister had acne on her chest back and face and it was terrible. but she took antibiotics for a year and now her skin is PERFECT she's beautiful and confident again! acne isn't permanent.

I'm sorry :/ I think its normal though. The same thing happened after I turned eighteen.
I'm now 19 and they are now gone.

As time goes on, our bodies change. It is likely your skin won't act the same for very long. In the meantime, make sure you are eating good quality food, fruit, vegetables, and drinking lots of water. Avoid lots of candy and soda pop. Keep your face clean and be aware of where your hands touch your face as bacteria from your hands can of course transfer to your face. See a doctor for some assistance. It shouldn't be such a big deal -- it is obviously causing you concern, affecting your self esteem. Here's a big tip for life: Most people think about themselves and aren't worried about little cosmetic things on other people. The goodness and positive energy inside you is what matters and that is what people will respond to in the long run.

    Normal? Yes. Necessary? Absolutely not!

You are who you are. Freckles, sores, warts, zits, boils and all! Everyone is, or was at some point in time, self-conscious about their body for one reason or another. Everyone!

Most people are so wrapped up worrying about how they look themselves that they could care less about zits or scars.

As you continue to get older, your face will likely clear up. The less attention you pay to it, the less likely you are to pick at it and make it worse.

I've heard some good things about Proactiv, though everyone has their own favorite products. Use one if you feel like it, but just be yourself. I guarantee that nobody that matters will care at all, and then before you even realize it your face will clear up and you will move on to other stages in your life and other things to worry about :)

And to second what others said--if you truly are not able to overcome the feelings that are making you avoid social activity on your own, you still have options. You can see a doctor, who can prescribe stronger/more effective solutions. At the same time, he can recommend a psychologist or psychiatrist who can help you to overcome those fears.

I'm glad your face is clear but you really should consider being more modest about your looks.

Yes thankfully it got so much better already with Vichy. I'm back to normal. Those were a terrible 3 months though, and I have new respect for those that have acne.
