It's ok not to be "normal"

OK, so I just came across this site today. I have looked at posts on this site where random people take it upon themselves to judge someone who they don't even know. It got me thinking about the concept of normality and I realized that normality is a completely man made idea. I've never really thought of it much before, but come to think of it, it kind of annoys me that society can decide what is acceptable and label anyone who is "different" to it's expectations, as abnormal or "socially deviant" just so the "normal" people can feel better about themselves by judging others.

It is such a idealistic, fascist idea that any one person can decide what social norms people should conform to. We are individuals and are all different. If everyone was the same, the world would be a boring place.

Anyway, rant over. I'm curious what other people think about this so please do share your opinions.

    Most people in this site are pretty helpful and open-minded, aside from the occasional troll. I've gotten some good advice on here, and met some cool folks too. It's not really a site about "judging."

    It also means common, expected. Like how the rain falling is normal this time of year. I hope we get some normal rainfall otherwise there will be drought.

    And it isn't just a projection of what society thinks, it is often what you think society thinks is normal. We judge, it's human, but we dont always realize what we are judging may not be truth.

    I understand what you are saying. What is normal is ultimately an individual's opinion. But that is the whole point of this website to get other's opinions on what you are posting about. See what they think on it. You came at this with a judgmental angle. It is nice to feel a certain way about something and have people respond to let you know you aren't alone or who genuinely just want to help and give advice.

    This website and its people have answered my embarrassing and difficult to explain problems, as well as others I didn't even know I had in a timely, effective, and Sincerely caring manor. If you don't like it then you can leave. There's a big internet out there, but let my tell you something: no matter where you go, you'll never find a better place than this.

    I think of IIN as just an opening line to get us to talk about whatever's on our mind. This site is my entertainment. Is that normal? Probably not, but I don't care. Don't take it so seriously. You're new here. Enjoy. You'll get used to it.

    Actually this is a pretty cool site, and so are most of the people who hang out here.

    Normality is a completely man made idea? Possibly. But if so, then "Normality is a completely man made idea" is also a completely man made idea. Put THAT in your pipe and smoke it! :)
