It may be somewhat out dated, but it certainly wasn't racist.

At a recent meeting of our town's civic group, I called attention to some of the problems in our colored section. I was then verbally attacked by a small group of white liberals present there as being an out and out racist. I took offense to this as the whole point of my mentioning these problems was to make an effort for us to begin an outreach to bring minorities into our group in order to improve things for them. Now, the term "colored" may be a bit out dated (I'm 78 years old), but is it normal to assume racist intent by the simple act of using that term? I await your comments.

You dropped the ball so damn hard you broke the floor. I expect you should make an apology in your next meeting and try to clear things up.

    Obvious troll is obvious.

While I have visited parts of the USA where such unenlightened ways of thinking are still present, I find it hard to believe that anyone that can actually find their way here is not that oblivious to the world around them. Being 78 would mean you were born in 1937, making you of an age to be fully aware of the US civil rights movement. You'd have to be claiming 98 to have much in the way of credibility on your claim.

Racism is not what you say but what you mean by it. If you didn't use the word "colored" in order to degrade anyone, it doesen't make you racist.
Of course you can still offend people by accident and in this case an apology would be in order. To the black people that is. Not the white liberals.
I often don't know why some words are less offensive than others. But I'll call you whatever you want to be called.

You were racist for trying to help the blacks. To think they can be equal to us is racist since they are not equal to us.

I was castigated and reviled on here for using the term Abbo when referring to the native Australians. It was a completely acceptable term when I was there (hell, I was invited to hunt them for sport one weekend), and since I haven't been there in over 30 years, I had no way to know that the PC had changed.
But instead of respectfully informing me that the PC had changed, I was labeled a racist and as I said completely disrespected, as you were.
You know what? You and I have earned the right to use whatever word we are comfortable with and if others don't fucking like it, they can choke on their hatred, because it's the intent not the word itself that's important!

      You've earned the right?
I dare you to come tell the Abos that ; )
"But you don't understand. I was offered a chance to hunt you & I didn't. Respect me damn it"
They'll wrap their bark art around your fucking head

I got on fine with the Abos, just fine. Actually they were a hell of a lot more open and friendly to outsiders (who weren't white Aussies) than the white Aussies.
As for hunting Abos, that was to illustrate that it wasn't but a short 30 years ago that it was completely acceptable in your country to jump in a jeep and chase, terrorize and even kill other human beings just for fun.
You are apparently still not the enlightened culture you think you are, if what has gone down in Queensland recently is any indication. So again, you are preaching ethics from under the pulpit.
Fuck the Great Barrier Reef, we Australians need another huge mine so that we can all get rich, right?

You are such an imbecile. Seriously, murder has been illegal in Australia since the foundation of the country. Also, it was only legal to kill an aboriginal in the 19th century if they were TRESPASSING ON YOUR LAND, which I think is fairly reasonable, and in fact, the same type of law applies in a non racist way in many U.S states.

While I do agree that the majority of white Australians are racist and stupid, the aboriginals aren't exactly winning Nobel prizes, are they?

Child, I think you're getting 1985 C.E confused with 1985 B.C.E. Or are you really that much of an ignorant fool?

When I was in Oz, the governor of Queensland made possession of the tiniest bit of pot a life sentence, while murdering the cop who would arrest you was only a 7 year sentence. Of course the cops freaked out.
I think you should get your facts straight. If you can kill a cop and only do 7 years, do you really think the courts would do any worse for killing an indigenous person who was thought to be less than human? duh!

I don't know why I bother arguing with an ignorant fool of your intellect. But, I will anyway.

The life sentence pot thing is false. It always has been, in fact, marijuana will probably be legal in Queensland soon. Due to medical reasons.

Killing a policeman in Australia will guarantee you life behind bars. As with any public official. However, being the stupid country it is, the judge will be too drunk to sentence you.

If you were invited to hunt and kill aboriginals, then you were most likely talking to a group of murderers and didn't know it. Because such a thing is illegal in Australia and all other countries with even the vaguest sense of moral thought.

I am the one who has my facts straight, and just because you are an ignorant fool who can't accept it when he's wrong, doesn't make me any less correct.

              Your move, tipsy gypsy.

Oh you are such a sensitive little flower petal sometimes, aren't you? When were you reviled or castigated? I expressed my opinion that the term was racist and that Australian Aboriginals feel it to be racist.

Nothing to do with 'PC', everything to do with respect for others' choices about what to be called: I've often noticed that when disrespectful people are called on it. they use the term "PC" in a derogatory way. PC is nearly as outdated as "Abo" (only one B by the way, ignorant as well as racist).

While I would agree that many people seem to be just waiting for something to be offended by, I also believe that before one open's one's mouth, there is, in the social contract, an obligation on the part of the speaker to know what they are saying. I personally find much of the political correctness that goes on is unnecessary and people should just get over it, but if you want to say, "Hey, I just got here with my time machine so it's ok if I use antiquated modes of speech," I'd just wish you good luck with that.

The more pertinent question here, IMO, would be: is the OP a troll, which I think is rather obviously true. If you want to have a discussion about how ludicrous political correctness is, there are ways to do that without creating a stupid backstory. I've never met anyone sane over 60 that needed people on a website to validate their opinions. So there's another reason why I think this is based on a bogus premise.
