it started when were 16, i went to my best friends house and while scrolling through my twitter and reddit feed (which was full of porn) and i told him that i had to beat off, so i did.

Gay is being sexually attracted to someone of your own sex. If you don't find guys sexually attractive, you're not gay.
I agree with what SkullsNRoses says about taboo violation possibly being a factor. It could also be that he's someone you feel very close to, and this is a bonding thing between you two.
Lots of people want to believe that sexuality is a black and white thing, but researchers figured out a long time ago that it's more accurate to think of sexual orientation as a spectrum. Loads of people aren't totally straight or totally gay. It sounds like both of you are primarily focusing on the straight porn you're watching, but if you get some sort of buzz out of watching each other jerk off, so what? That could mean you're not 100% straight, but that would be perfectly normal.
It seems to me that if what you guys are doing isn't screwing up the rest of your lives and you're not bothering anyone else, what you get up to in private should be entirely up to you.
I don't think it's normal for people to gratify themselves with their friends.
Me and my friends did the same since we were just starting puberty. We would build a little teepee between us with blankets or go under covers so the other wasnt watching your dick and there would be a porno on the tv or something. We werent focusing on eachotber only the porn. We stopped doing this by around age 18. It slowly became weirder to us as we aged.
I am not a gay but do the same. Sometimea I let my friend to suck me off as well in present of my gf. So she can learn some skills.
