It doesn't bother me that my friend does drugs...is this normal?

I have a friend who uses cocaine occasionally/socially (and was using before I met her). When I mentioned this to another circle of friends they were SHOCKED that I don't do anything to stop her. They think a "real friend" should be holding interventions, calling the police to report her, and defriending her if she does not quit.

Personally, I think this is a bit overdramatic. I have indeed mentioned to her several times that I think she should quit/cut back, but I can't force her if she does not want to stop. Her life is in no way "out of control", and I believe she will soon grow out of this phase. Right now, I don't believe its my place to be forcing her into rehab/getting her arresteted (if it escalates, then yes). And I especially don't think its fair to defriend someone because of this.

Is it normal to feel this way?

you're other circle of friends sound like uptight cunts, maybe you should "defriend" them

  • She must be really rich, as cocaine is very expensive and lasts about fifteen minutes.

I can't see how reporting or defriending her is going to help.

If she’s not abusing it, let her have her fun

Giving people ultimatums or defriending, just means pressure and lack of love, patience and communication. And reporting her would do good in what case? In my country you only get in jail if you have significant amounts to sell with you, wich would indicate that you are a drug dealer. A user don't get in jail, just reported. Wich would make difficult for her to find jobs or government careers in the future.
I have friend that used cocaine for a long period of time for recreation - I didn't see the abuse or decreasing life quality. Today they don't use it anymore. Maybe that's just a fase.
Of course if it becomes a real vice, like all the others (like getting drunk or eating chalk) and it's bad for her health, it's life threathening, you as a friend should help her in the most humanly possible way: with lots of love.

As long as it doesn't become too regular it's not a problem.
