It sounds as though she's not very sure of herself. You should tell her it annoys you, or make a joke of it by copying her back (in private). You could stop this if she would just think BEFORE she started to speak - but she's young.
I do this a lot when I'm speaking to people. I'm not very good at speaking to people. Embarrassing her will just make her angry, don't do it.
Ya see, it's to do with not knowing what to say, and being cautious I suppose to say the right thing. Probably to do with lack of confidence. Get over it.
um is actually a word,it signifies that you are about to speak.....but when every other word is um,you might want to get your tubes tied
Hahaha! That reminds me of one of my friends! He left a message on my phone once, and I'm not even exaggerating when I say that he said the word "um" so much, it reminded me of a teenage girl who uses the word "like" after every other word.
This is how the message was; "Hey um (my name), ummmm I just um wanted to umm call you to um talk to you about um this um...." Yeah, you get the picture. Haha!
