Is this wisdom tooth pain normal?

My bottom left wisdom tooth came in almost a year ago without any pain, but not quite all the way. The entire top is exposed, it's just not as high off the gum line as my other molars. For the last few days though, it felt like there was a canker sore on the gum right next to it, but when I took a look nothing was there. Tonight I was leaning my hand on my chin and finally noticed a soreness right down on the bottom of my jaw below the tooth. Is it just pushing itself the rest of the way in or should I jump to the dentist for an extraction?

sounds like pericoronitis. all four of my wisdom teeth have partially grown in and I get this about once a year. it's just a slight infection of the gums near the tooth impaction. it will usually go away in a few days. no need to have the tooth removed or get antibiotics. just rinse with warm salt water. google it for more info.

Its likely a sharp part of the wisdom tooth, inside your gum!!
You may need anti-biotics to reduce the swelling, and then have the tooth extracted

You should get them extracted. I did about 3 or 4 years ago. You look like a chipmunk afterwards, but once the swelling goes down and your mouth heals up, you never have to experience the pain of having wisdom teeth again!
