Am I the only one puzzled by the fact that "dwarf" is a politically correct term? Whenever I hear the word "midget," I think of a person who's shorter than average. When I hear the word "Dwarf," I think, well, Snow White.
Forget political correctness of any variety. Political correctness is basically "Let's make rules to ensure everyone behaves within certain acceptable ranges because that is how we are nice to each other".
Bollocks!
We are nice to each other because we are open and understanding. We are never nice because a law tells us to be. No wonder people think political correctness is idiotic. It's because it actually is.
Forget PC. Have a chat with the people involved. See what they think.
Make an observation that Jews make the best doctors, lawyers, money managers, composers and comedians and see all the flack you catch.
And I'm not Jewish. ( Of course my tax man and the last surgeon who cut on me are. )
Oh, am I a racist if I observe that blacks make the best sprinters? Or that .... never mind.
Technically not, no, but political correctness is so stupid and far-reaching, it's distracted people from some really simple truths. We don't need all these rules.
In fact, political correctness is, to an extent the enemy of fairness because people use it as an accusation against people who are trying to be fair. Nobody likes it and it benefits nobody. It should go away.
Is it normal when someone says abything to do with been politically correct you would loved to see them been raped,tortured and humiliated by who ever they are defending.
No and you are not normal if you believe it is.
Politically correctness has become meaningless as a term, but originally all it meant was respecting other people, not demeaning them or discriminating against them - it's not rocket science.
It has nothing to do with "defending" any group or enforcing other people's language or behaviour, well it didn't used to mean that anyway.
It is now as totally meaningless as "nice" and is used as a weapon against people in favour of the above inclusiveness, by people who don't agree with equality of opportunity or respect for difference.
I must've asked a hundred people over the years, including here more recently, what they mean by "politically correct" and guess what? I never got the same answer twice although I did cop a lot of abuse - as I'll bet I do for this post
There's a difference between midget and dwarf. I think dwarves are the shorter ones. I think to legally be a midget you have to be 4 feet 8 inches or shorter as an adult and to be a dwarf, some height shorter than that as an adult.
But I thought the Dwarves in Snow White were Dwarves? If they are, then why would we call them anything else?
I'm confused:(
I believe a re-write of the story is in process. It's been retitled, "Snow White and the Seven Height Challenged People". I think it's being run through some lawyers to estimate how much it could cost the new publisher when the ACLU discovers a way to cast the new title as demeaning and discriminating.
