Is this normal? or do i have a drinking issue?

My usual drinking habits are that im usually at the bar 2-3 times a week. Usually 2.I am alway usually drunk 2-3 times of the week. Recently back in July my best friend who meant the world to me passed away and i turned deeply into alcohol, drinking everyday, i went 2 months drinking every day. its gotten better, but i still frequent the bar and i got to have at least one drink a day. I've noticed i get angry if i get denied a drink, or ive said that i wasnt going to drink and everytime i have said that, i've ended up drinking. would this behaviour be considered alcohol abuse or am i in some shape or form an alcoholic?

"alcoholism" has hundreds of different definitions. to me, physical addiction is alcoholism. drinking and getting drunk alot is alcohol abuse and "a problem". 2 or 3 times a week is fine imo, but it depends on what consequences come. If you get in fights or do bad shit alot when drinking, things need to change. It's normal to drink to take your mind off of problems and pain and reduce stress. It's better if you can find healthier alternatives you can use more often.

I don't really know the lines between alcoholic and not but it doesn't sound good that you get angry if you get denied a drink.

Firstly, sorry you've had a hard time. Secondly, I do think you're using alcohol as a coping mechanism, which is kind of a form of alcoholism, yes. Have you considered therapy/counselling so that you can talk about your friend and perhaps process it all without the 'help' of drink? It would be a shame to go down the alcoholism path - alcohol should be a laugh IN MODERATION, not an issue. It's easy to turn to substances. I've had a really hard couple of years if I'm honest and a smiliar kind of temptation has been there but it must be resisted! It will not help in the long run and I think you know this. Good luck : )

I am in recovery from drugs and alcohol. I am sober almost 5 years (although length of sobriety doesn't put anybody a position of "knowing" more about this stuff). I can, however, offer my experience. In a nutshell, for me, when I planned to only have a couple drinks, I wasn't able to stop once I started. And when I planned to not drink at all (either because I wanted to really get sober or just to recover from a bad night of drinking) I found that I didn't have the will power to resist drinking again. So if you can't control the amount you drink, and/or you can't stay stopped when you really want to, you might be drinking in an alcoholic way. Just my input.

The fact that you even raise this concern to yourself and share it with others , says that you're not too far gone . I would however change this habit as it can become very addictive and life threatening . Find a much more productive and healthier hobby . Once this mindset is cleared and you find enjoyment / consolation elsewhere then if you choose to .. indulge in some alchol here and there or what not . I am not an expert that's just what i would do .

I have been doing my best to limit my drinking. The one drink a day, it just helps me to de stress, which might sound like bullshit or stupid to some of you guys and i get that. I thank you all for the input so far. I figured i should ask people of whom i dont know bc friends might be a little 'easier' on me if you know what I mean?

"i got to have at least one drink a day"

That's more indicative of a problem with alcohol than someone who gets blind drunk at the weekend. Be careful!
