Is this normal? guy i like confessed he

Used to have tons of hookups since he was underage , said it's his biggest regret and makes him feel like a fool and depressed at the same time. He told me he hasn't had a hookup in over a year and he's proud of that and that he vowed with himself to never have sex until marriage now as his morals have changed. He knows I'm a virgin and he said that he admires my strength and that is what he wished he was.

But when I asked how many hookups.. he said he doesn't know, I asked if it's over 20 he said yeah probably around 50.

He's a bartender , says he had mental health issues and he used it to escape. He's actually in therapy for his mental health as I found out he was abused as a child. His father is in a mental hospital has been for over 20 years.

What do you think? I like this guy a ton and am wanting to pursue but I'm afraid of his past
