Is this normal for my dad to act like this?

So my dad has some MAJOR anger issues. When I was younger, he would never play games with me and he was working all the time. He never came to any of my activities in high school, I'm surprised he even came to my graduation. But three years ago he was in an accident at work and he has been in pain ever since. He eats everything in the house and smokes a pack a day. We do not get along at all. My older sister and him get into "debates" which happen to be yelling matches and him trying to force his opinion on us all the time. He tried to stop smoking for four days but Just last night, he freaked out on me. He was screaming at the top of his lungs saying that I cussed at him(which I didn't but would have LOVED to then) and then he started walking towards me. I was actually afraid of him then. I feel that if the kitchen table wasn't in the way, then he would have hit me. Is this a normal thing? Or is it just because he's in pain all the time and it's my fault?

I understand he was bitter before but with accident it as become worse, this is my guess and maybe this is how I would look at it....not out making money and not able to do as much as I use to do,like provide for family, do chores, may make him feel less of a man and seeing it day after day he is probably going crazy and picking fights is not helping him to release his frustration in a,healthy matter

A lot of people with pain issues have a short fuse, but it's not okay for him to hit you.
