Is this normal chest pain?

Every once in a while my sternum will hurt but I was just sitting on the couch with my feet propped up in a chair and was watching a show on my computer for about an hour. As soon as I got up I could barely bend over because of the pain coming from the middle of my chest. This pain was right in the center and slightly above my breast. I have sat like that numerous times and no pain like that has ever bothered me. It has been about 25 minutes now and when I stand up and bend over the pain has reduced some but is still pretty sore. Is this normal?

I'm an EMT, and will soon be a pre-med student. This is not normal. I'm convinced that it has nothing to do with your heart. However, there definitely is something abnormal going on. You may have a broken rib, is there any breathing problems? Often a broken rib can puncture a lung, but it doesn't sound like that's your case. Go to the doctor ASAP!

Not heart related. Don't worry. It's your STERNUM, as you say. Happened to me, everyday, for a week and a half! Stabbing pain, right? Top of sternum. Its your bones dude, if your 18/19 years-old, its gonna hurt if your in difficult poisitions in everyday life.
