Is this normal behavior for a teenage girl?

A couple of years back my brother started dating his old high school crush. She has a ten year old son and a seventeen year old daughter. As far as I'm concerned they're my niece and nephew. If I'm doing work for my brother and his girlfriend at their house I'll talk to the son a little when he gets home from school, we play chess at my parents' house, it's basically like those kids were born into the family.

The daughter is, for the most part, an average teenager. Since I'm less than five years younger than her mother (she's 36, I'm 32) as far as she's concerned I'm just some old guy. Typical teenage stuff.

But lately she seems to be getting a little more "touchy-feely." I was cutting brush for her mother yesterday and one of her goats got tangled up. Since her mother was still at work I helped the daughter with the goat. I was holding the goat down and she put her hand on mine. She didn't move mine and she didn't press down to show me how much pressure to use so she wasn't correcting me.

Then later I needed a paper towel to wipe some spilled bar oil off of the chainsaw. I knocked on the door, asked her for one, and she came back a few seconds later. All she needed to do was hold it by one end so I could grab the other but she folded it up and when handing it to me put her hand in mine.

Is this a possible teenage crush? If it is should I nip it in the bud or let it run its course?

Could it just be a sign that she's accepting me as family? She's pretty affectionate with her brother and I've seen her walk with her arm around her blood uncle.

Normally I would think I'm just reading too much into it but this is a complete 180. She went from acting like she was disgusted just being in the same room with me to seemingly going out of her way to touch my hand between Easter and yesterday.

"Legal in a year..." That is a disgusting idea. She's practically my niece and if my brother and her mother ever get married legally she will be considered my niece.

Damn. You actually responded. I was kidding. I have no fucking clue what to do so I said what I assumed most stereotypical males would suggest/do.

I don't think it's a crush, people are just reading into it too much. Hand to hand contact usually doesn't mean anything when there is so much of an age gap.

Hmmmmm, I wouldn't suggest doing anything that would increase the crush, such as waiting another year for dating her as other comments stated. In another way if you tell somone that you think she likes you, but she doesn't it could be a disaster. I would suggest waiting to see if any other wierd activaties that would be a possible signal for a crush to come THEN tell your brother or her mom. Just saying tje obvious since your brother may marry her mom and you don't want her to hate you.

Pretty normal, and both possibilities (teenage crush on an older man or just familial affection) seem plausible. If things become uncomfortable, just have a frank talk with her.

Just let it be for another year because she will be 18 next year... If you know what I mean... You guys aren't blood related so just do it

Dude if his brother got married to the girl's mom, that would be sick if she got pregnate. That is just the worste thing for him to do.Plus he is WAY older than her.

Would not matter if she became pregnant.

They are not blood related .

At this point, it seems normal enough, especially since you say she is also affectionate with her blood male relatives. But keep an eye on it, and if she says anything odd or starts getting more affectionate with you or in a way that is different from how she acts with her other relatives, it might be a sign of a crush. Maybe try mentioning it to your brother and his girlfriend. Have them observe her behavior around you and see what they think. They probably know her a bit better than you do (especially her mom) and can give you a better idea of what is normal for her.
