Is this kid normal?

My mom's co-worker has an 8 year old daughter, and 3-4 months ago I met her. I didn't talk much with her, just smiled at her and complimented her drawings.
A few weeks later, she tells her mom that she considers me her "older sister". Which I thought was pretty cute.
So I saw her in my mom's work place a few times more. And now she's kissing my cheek every 5 minutes. I wanted to talk alone with my mom, the kid wouldn't leave the room. Says she'll leave the room whenever I leave the room. In the elevator, she just started kissing my coat from the back. The day after that, her mom told my mom that when they got home she was clinging to her mom's clothes and said they smelled like me.
Is her behavior normal?? Am I heartless for being annoyed by this???

Thats a really touching sad story. I have no idea what I'd do if I was in your situation. Your heart just goes out to a little one in need but at the same time is it healthy to be feeding into it. I wish I had some smart advice but I'm just overwhelmed by the feeling of need that this child has. So sad. Please tell us what happens?

This kid sounds very needy for affection, which is sad, but you need to create some distance from her. I think she must have some sort of a problem but there's nothing you can do about it except gently discourage her.

Maybe she wants attention. Or maybe she just really likes you.

I cant tell, not enough details
