Is this considered cheating?

There's something I'm considering doing to satisfy myself however I don't feel quite right about it. Help me decide if this is cheating or if it's OK to do!!

I love saving coins. I have a 5 gallon water bottle in which I am saving pennies. I've been at it for a few years now and it feels like I'm getting nowhere!!

I want to see more progress and I thought, "Hey, why don't I go to the bank and exchange $100 or so for pennies".

On one hand it would be so gratifying for me seeing the jug more full but on the other hand it seems so dishonest. Those pennies aren't really the same as the pennies I get honestly in my change. Would I ruin it all by doing this? Would I see my deception every time I gazed upon the jug? Perhaps I'd go mad with guilt and shame. Or maybe everything will be fine, who knows.

Please think this over carefully and vote whether you think this is cheating and a bad idea or if it's acceptable. Thank you for your time and careful consideration in this matter!

Lol, I though this was going to be one of those "urrr, it wuz only a blowjob so does that count as cheatin?" stories.

It's still cheating to me, you meanie. Also, would the bank really do that? They'd just look at you like you were mad, probably :S

    • Gotcha! It is a serious question though! I figured, why not have fun with the wording.

I'd think the bank would do this, I don't see why not. It would probably only be limited by how many rolled pennies they had on hand.

Or I could stand next to a CoinStar machine and offer to buy people's pennies but the CoinStar people would probably put a hit out on me.

EDIT: Now that I think about it, the bank would absolutely do this because I've seen a few of those videos on Youtube where people go get a shitload of pennies to pay their fines with, as a "fuck you" of sorts.

If ur wanting to just see how many pennies u can SAVE then its cheating. Also the teller will probably get aggrevated with having to give u all those pennies (it would take a really long time and I don't even know if they HAVE that many pennies-$1 is 100 pennies).

It's never bad to save more money, but if your purpose is to see how much change you save and you just funnel in cash just to fill the jug to see progress, that's "fake" progress.
You're ultimately deceiving yourself and would be cheating.
Why? - because you're not working according to the purpose of that jug.

    What should you do?
Throw the $100 bank note in there as-is.
That way, you are saving more money, but you don't fill up the jug contrary to it's purpose.

It's not exactly cheating, but I think it wouldn't be as gratifying.

haha cheating all the way and yes it would be completely ruined. however i'll give you a suggestion that may or may not soothe your frustration - it would surely work for me and trick me. get yourself a smaller jug at first, once you fill that one up get another double its size, pour your pennies there and work your way to the big one you already have

something like having any great objective in life but realizing you have to take steps to get there. establish a goal you can achieve, celebrate the accomplishment and then move on to the next, etc. you may get the satisfaction and motivation you need to keep pursuing it

I haven't been in the same situation, so I don't feel I can give qualified advice pertaining to how you will feel if you do this or that.

You would only be cheating yourself, and I think it's up to you to judge how you would feel afterwards. Or how you would feel if years go by and nothing really happens.

Depends on why you're doing it, really. Most people like saving up the pennies so that they can convert it into notes once they've got enough, not the other way around. If you just want a jar full of pennies, then fair enough.

But isn't the fun part saving the pennies up? Doesn't the gratification come from working a long time and having the patience to get to that point? How will you feel like you've achieved anything when you actually haven't? I think it's cheating and I don't really understand it. Although, again, if all you want is a jar full of pennies, then I think it's fair enough.

If you have to ask, then yes. I don't read these anymore.

Haha! I read it, sorry for my misjudgements.

Yeah, I still think it's cheating though :P
