Is this a mental illness, or a normal hangover?

When I've been drinking, the next day my mind is very fragile. I have hallucinated and get very vivid, random images pound into my head if I lay down and close my eyes. I also hear voices and my thoughts split off into what feels like separate boxes in my brain. I start to see those thoughts in the form of random imagery. It makes me very anxious. I also get strange nightmares. Is this normal, or should I see someone?

Quit drinking! It sounds like you have anxiety (or something else) which is aggravated by the drinking. Do you eat well and stay hydrated whilst drinking?

It's not really normal but if it's only after drinking then not really a mental illness. If it's that bad stop drinking.

It is normal for some people, or if you drink a lot. You should ask yourself weather you like getting drunk enough to have to endure this, and if you do, make sure you have a nice quiet day planned next for your comfort. Also, mental illness can be one of the most horrific experiences ever, but with medication it is treatable and is not the end of the world if you catch it young, so see a doctor if you are concerned. It is true that getting intoxicated can bring it to the surface if you have it, but it will not cause it. The less you mess with your mind, the less this chance will be. If you are young it is very hard to weigh all the above choices. just do your best, and try to do what makes you happy. I wouldn't wish mental illness on my worst enemy, but it can be treated and lived with, and usually shows up between 18-25 years of age.

You're not "built" to take on booze
Drink, but don't get drunk. Clearly you have some serious hangovers!

When I get drunk, I sleep like a rock and wake up fine (Semi-tired, but fine)
A useless gift I have XD
    Increased booze resistance.
Doubt that will help me in my exams XD

I used to get hangovers that filled my brain with agonising emotions. That's why I no longer drink. You're not mentally ill - you're just not suited to alcohol. At least you'll never be an alcoholic. If you have these emotions normally, you'd be mentally ill.

  • While I'm intoxicated I'm happy as ever, it's only if I've had A LOT I sometimes experience this the next day.
